Here's my dilemma.
Right now I have my home theatre set up in my bedroom, which is a rather small room (sounds loud though!). My problem is, my mains (M50's) are only about two feet from the front edge of my bed, with the lower woofer firing directly into my bed. My obvious concern is that the bed will be partially blocking the sound. Moving the speakers outwards to avoid the bed is not an option, so I'm looking at ways to raise the speaker about a foot off the ground.
Siince this is only a temporary situation (a month or two), I'm not looking to invest any amound of money into raising the speakers.
I was thinking about just using milk-crates to raise the speakers, and I'm wondering if this would have any detrimental effects, ie, will not having the towers sitting on the floor lower my bass output? Would some other sort of riser be better then milkcrates?

thanks

Craig, I use stacks of old magazines(totally inert; no vibrations)to experiment with speaker heights. Don't worry about the bass, but you might want to tilt them slightly forward so that the tweeters still point at your ears.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

You could drop that bed right down onto the ground, too...dorm room style. What are those bed frames for anyway?

Craig_P,

Considering the limited space, have you thought about proper speaker stands? Not milk crates but one of those pole types. They'll elevate your speakers to desirable height, take up minimal space and would not be too obstructive.

Give it a go....

Craig,

I used to use ordinary exterior bricks to raise my floorstanding speakers.
Also, consider the FUTON style -- with your upper matress directly on the floor.
