Geez, Mark, how do you really feel? I wish you'd try to open up a little more.

Reading between the lines, I sense some dissatisfaction with your current installation.

I have a first-generation Pioneer and a cheapo Toshiba. Never had a bit of trouble with either one. It's a pity that virtually all of these devices are made in China and disposable. Can you even get something like this that is made in USA (or Japan, for that matter)?

I have crappy TV's, so I can't really tell the PQ difference. That's probably how it will always be. It takes a pretty obvious qualitative difference to get me to spend extra; no regrets about the Axioms, but when the processing is entirely digital, I see/hear less difference.

If it truly is shot, I recommend tying a rope to it and pulling it behind the car for a few hundred miles!

I will attempt more subtlety in the future, Tom. I will not be buying another Denon DVD player in my lifetime (especially since prices on basic players plummetted). My Denon receiver has been great, but it was made in Japan not China.

On the bright side, it finally started working again and I was able to watch the movie. Not bad. Perhaps a little overdone in comparison to the originals? The new ones seem a bit more formulaic, driven more by effects and action than timely plot/character development. Or I may just be getting grumpy and old.

I remember standing eagerly in line when I was 15, Heineken in hand (and every coat pocket) to see The Empire Strikes Back. Those were the good old days....

Occasionally, we will put in a movie for the 2 yr old while we, uh..., have dinner or something.

He occasionally displays some impatience typical of children that age. In such cases, it seems the [censored] DVD player will NEVER work! Kid crying, wife complaining/second-guessing, $400 POS DVD player non-functional. I don't know how I've resisted slamming it against the wall.

Don't blame the chinese, blame the assholes that call a quality product something they want made for 6 USD.

Incompetent slave labourers, something about that I find unbelievably irritating.

Well at $1-2 per day per worker, I have difficulty comprehending how these products can sell for hundreds of dollars (or in the case of Rockets, thousands of dollars!).

Why isn't there international furor, or any national media coverage, of the recent crack-downs on rioters in China? Are atrocities only newsworthy if they are connected to the US and/or President Bush? Oh, that's right, I forgot... their value system is simply different from ours - who are we to judge, eh?

Oil money enriching the psycho-retards in the middle east, China practicing economic warfare on the US and open warfare on its own people, and an immigrant third-world underclass in my country are little pet peeves of mine, I reckon.

I certainly did not mean to offend or inflame anyone. LOL
