It's B.A.S.S...... not BASE!
There.
I'm better now.
Now I'm not. It's also C.A.N.O.N...... NOT Cannon!
OK, really. A bit better now.

Actually, it is bass, not B.A.S.S.
And you are Mark S. Johnson, not MarkSJohnson ...
As long as you are better, though, that is the important thing.
Merry Christmas !

I'm glad everybody feels better so now they can go relax, grab a coke, and crank up the base on their speakers. :-)

Re: Cannon/Canon
I don't know how people mix those up... one's a large, unwieldy medieval device with no optics to speak of... and the other... well, okay, bad example.
Santa Claus e bothers me most this time of year.

Goddamn, Bren, do you have to hate and ridicule everything I like?
Yes, I was thinking about posting something along the lines of this thread...

Depends what Canon product you're speaking of...
I really don't have much against their SLRs and Digitals (well, the Digital EOS is the only one I've used)... if you're talking about professional video lenses, I'd probably scrunch up my face and make a small animal noise... and if you're talking about the prosumer XL-series and GL-series video cameras, I'll refrain from mentioning "XL is an approximation of the Kanji characters for leaf blower" and "GL stands for Good Luck - the last thing you tell your editor when handing over footage."

Their pro digitial "still" cameras are fantastic. I would much rather have a Canon than the Fuji tagged Nikon that I use.
The cannon auto focus is much faster and precise than Nikon.
The only thing I would change about Canon cameras is the CMOS chip, and I'm not sure I would change that. I just wished they offered a CMOS chip also, even if it were to be more expensive.

Or did he step over all ready.
No, it's already.

Still trying to find a really good reason to buy a pro-"SLR" digital. I've used a D100, D70 and a Canon EOS 20 (?). Image quality seems to be a wash on all of them - all used outdoors in bright sunlight, manual focus (I'm a stickler).

In what way? Adding different features to the camera? Changing the way they're integrated?

Nikon SLR, Minolta SLR (a 1980s-era XR-2 - good live-event camera, I've had a flash torn off of the hotshoe on it at a concert, and it just keeps ticking) and the video equipment is all bro's... all Sony. DSR-200, VX-1000, 3 PD-170s, 2 DSR-D30s and one HDDVCAM (model #? - only seen it once).

OK. I'm a fan of the EOS line. SLR all the way, baby. I've got both a 7e and a Digital Rebel XT. And I have the most wonderful macro lens... the 100mm version. Maybe someday soon I'll get the 70-200 f/4 L lens, but not just yet. I will take your word for it on the video side.

OK - I'm still confused.
Do Cannons play base or not??? If they do, I need to get to there websight and bye one before my charge goes overdo. (Merry Christmas Mark )
Jack - thanks for sharing that (really) old picture of Joseph Conrad. I had heard about his TV series (from my grandmother), but being as young as I am, I never actually got to SEE it.
Best of the holidays to everyone!!

"Do Cannons play base or not??? "
I remember whenever I was a cannoneer in the Army we shot some cannons that were pretty darn loud on the base, or off the base...didn't matter. Speaking of base, did anybody catch the video of that b.a.s.e. jumper with the helmet cam who slammed and tumbled his way down the side of a canyon and dam? What a bloody mess that was, and that was for real. ouch.
I don't get too upset about the way folks care to speak, as long as I can understand everything is cool.
Drivers in the fast lane driving slow while on the phone, farmers who want me to spray their field at night and then leave tractors and crap out in the middle of it, rap (music?), neighbors who bitch about meaningless nonsense, dumb people at the boat ramp...these are just a few of the things that make me go AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
Edited to add one more little item:
Cable set top boxes that go berserk on a Friday night and the only piece of advice the Comcast 'service' rep can tell me is that it *may* not be a good idea to throw the box into the street and that I *may* bring the box in on Monday. Which brings me to a question. Why in Hades are these reps on the damn phone at this time of night if they cannot provide any troubleshooting or service anyway?

I have the same question about answering services for doctors. They can't answer any medical questions, and they can't take a message. Why bother?

Do you know what makes me go AAAAAAHHHH???
Smooth jazz.
Holy crap. I'll be sitting in the freeking dentist's office and this crap is playing. It's so smooth and...slow that I just want to yank the speakers out of the walls, either that or strangle the saxaphone player for playing such stressfull and pointless music. JAZZ on the other hand is awesome. Smooth jazz is not considered jazz. You won't hear it in traditional New Orleans music, therefore, it isn't jazz.
Yea.

Amen, brother. Amen. I think Kenny G almost ruined the soprano sax for me.

I remember years ago whenever all four of my back molars were pulled the dentist slapped a pair of headphones on me and had country playing while he was doing his thing. I've never been much of a country fan but it seems like I do remember 'twanging out' that particular morning. Yeeeha!
Add Kenny G and his fellow 'smooth jazz' types on my list as well, good call.
Have you ever just wanted to walk up to somebody and smack 'em right up beside the head for being so arrogant and condescending that whenever they step in a room everybody just kind of looks at each other at the same time but nobody *wants* to say it....even though everybody is thinking it. I absolutely despise those people.
Merry Christmas every body!

Like all music genres, some smooth jazz (new age?) shows a spark of genuine creativity, but not much. And, Kenny G DID ruin the soprano sax for me. I can't stand it now. Even the Alto sax makes me a little queasy. Now, the Tenor sax, well played, is yummy!
Apologies to all who enjoy smooth jazz/new age. You've a perfect right to do so.

I've heard that nitrous oxide helps with the appreciation of country music.
