Hello to everyone, it has been a while since I've been on the board. I am still loving my axioms -- the novelty has never worn off!

I have a question to anyone who has had to replace a lamp bulb in an LCD projector. My projector makes a clicking noise when I turn it on, and the lamp does not come on. I'm sure that I am way over my "lamp hours," but I'm not sure why "a bad Lamp" would make a noise. I am not whiz when it comes to electronics. Could someone shed some light on this for me (no pun intended). Comments, thoughts, and snide remarks are welcome.

well I asked for it... re: snide remark, so it's fair game!

It's a Panny the AE500. It has been great. I'm sure I'm way over the lamp life hours, and am going to buy the replacement, but the "clicking noise" is bugging me. Why would a bad Lamp cause a clicking noise. I thought one of the experts here would know. I'd rather not go voer to AVS Forum, because I like the friendly people on this forum.

BTW fellow boarders... I have been a way for a while, and was amazed at the price increases at Axiom. I guess the secret REALLY got out at how nice these speakers really are. I've help 3 other people buy a set of these for their theaters after they heard mine. The last was my brother-in-law, and the prices were a lot different!!! whew. But, he is extremely happy.

I have the Panny LT712E, the next upgrade from the one you have. I recently replaced the bulb. I did not have any clicking noises, but had the picture getting soft for some reason and I had some colorations appear. So I took the projector in to the dealer for a service and lamp replacement. It is back as good as new.

Sorry I could not help more.

The clicking could be the starter in the bulb, depending on how these builbs are designed and built, some bulbs, require a starter, and the starter will make a clicking noise, this could be what is happening, sense your filiment, is burned out, or used up, what ever the case, the starter is cycling, trying to start a bulb that is “dead”..

Again, I don’t know how these bulbs are made or exactly what kind they are, this is only one possiblity. Might be right, might be wrong… don’t know.

Have the people that bought Axioms mentioned at the time of purchase that you referred them? Referrel bonuses are nice, but they have to mention you at the time of purchase...

As far as the clicking noise, not sure. I've never had to replace my Z2 bulb, knock on wood...

Thanks. What you say makes sense. I've heard "ignitors" on flourecent lights make sounds before. I'll soon find out as the lamp replacement is on its way. $300 -- ouch.

Yup florecent lights use starters.. like I said I don’t know how these bulbs work, could be a florecent byproduct, or florecent highbread.. what ever they are, they are Freaking Bright, and expensive… I’ve only used about 700hr’s out of my alloted 3000
