hi guys, need some help
i just purchased a denon 3805 from my local audio store. I am trying to set up my old stereo speaker system until the axiom speakers arrive (another 6 weeks). i have a 5.0 technics speaker system (No subwoofer basically). I hope the speakers work becuase it is at least 12 years old and i have never used it, nor have i ever set a receiver up before.
1.) i have read online that i need to set the cross over before i run the auto setup test. How do i do this and what should i set it as???
2.) next, after auto setup, should i turn the EQ off???
3.)the audioholic website review on denon 3805 only talks about autosetup and EQ when setting up system, however, my manuals lay out a lot of things to configure, do i need to do all of them or does auto setup bascially do all of them already??? eg. setup delay time?? speaker config??? channel level, surround sp setup, input setup, auto tuner?????? etc............
this should get the ball rolling for me.
thanks

Blackie, you didn't describe the Technics speakers, but if it's five identical speakers without a sub there won't be any crossover since the five speakers will simply run full-range.
You should at least experiment with the auto-equalization to see if the results are pleasing.
Although no crossover would be set with five identical speakers, the auto-calibration would adjust for delays and level differences between them. As always, study the manual even more.

Blackorp, I'll tell you how I set mine with some help from the folks on this forum.
Run the auto- setup with the mic.
store it then go to speaker config. set all speakers to small, next set your crosover to 80, and turn the Eq off.
This is really the setup you will want when you get your order from Axiom.
The setup pretty much does everything, delays, level, ect.
You will have to tell it how many speakers you are using as well if you are using a sub. Also read the manual several times, it seems difficult at first, but will all make sense after a few times through.

JohnK: thanks, 2 small surround sound speaker (sb-s27), two large front speaker and one center channel speaker (sb-afc31). let me know if it makes any difference. i could get the specifications for each if that's important.
HomeDad: thanks, i'll try that setup tomorrow morning. Let's hope nothing blows up:) oh, did you get your banana plugs from bluejeans also, should i get the regular ones ($3.50 a pair) or their locking banana plugs??
One of these days i am going to have to get you two some gifts to say thanks or name my axiom speakers after you guys. ha ha ha.

I just use the regular plugs, they are simple and they work.

Okay, since the front speakers are much bigger, the 3805 will probably automatically set them "large" and the others "small". If it doesn't, you can set them that way manually together with a crossover(e.g. 80Hz,100Hz,120Hz) that the "small" speakers can handle, considering their response on the low end.
