trying to connect tv, cable box and denon 3805 receiver.

I have:
1. cable box to tv--y, Pa/Ca,Pr/Cr going from cable box to back of tv compoenet input.
2. cable to receiver-- i have audio l and R going to receiver's audio r and l (tv input).

aside from the white wire going from wall outlet to cable box and cable box to tv, What else am i missing???

do i need a "video in" plug or "s video" or ....???

appreciate the help as i am a bit confused with the denon manuals

Does your cable box have an optical input? Connect component inputs from cable box to Tv. If you have an optical input on the cable box connect that to yor optical 1 input on you Denon. Then in your setup menu assign the optical 1 to TV. Everything should then be setup for TV.

SPDIF=Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format. That transfers the audio to your tv. Interestingly enough my Sony DVD player doesn't use that termonology to decribe it's audio output.

If I understand your question, on the back of your receiver there may be a "monitor out jack", connect that to your tv. That way you'll be able to view the menu on screen. That can be any old cheap cable you have laying around.

You have optical and coax for linking your audio from your cable box, use either. It may be easier to just view your setup on your reciever , thats how I do it. Don't bother with the remote for now, just setup using the front panel of the reciever.

just did it without the monitor view. Got just about everything setup and testing different sound mode while watching the superbowl.

1.) however, the back surround speakers's volume is very low, i don't really know how to set then louder without affecting the front and center.

2.) now that the system is set, i would however like to know how to view auto setup with the monitor.

fordperfect: where do i connect the "monitor out" jack to the back of tv?? what type of plug??

Homedad, you said i have both optical and coax on my cable box, if so, where should i connect the wire to and where...

oh, and once i set it up, what else do i have to do, what channel do do i set it at and what input at to view it?? or etc???

the denon manuals says nothing about them.
thanks
