Hello, I have been playing with my new system. Pioneer 1015 reciever, the M22I, QS8 and the VP150 speakers. I was wonder is the M22i and the VP150 should be set to small or large? My reciever has been setting them to large with the Auto MACC.

The other thing I was wondering - center channel above or below the screen?
I am using a 92" screen with a Panasonic 900 projector.

I have tried both - not overly impressed with either place. I am not sure that the reciever can handle running two centers in on the same channel.

Any thoughts would be helpfull - thanks.

You didn't mention if you have a subwoofer or not. If you do not have a subwoofer, then leaving your M22ti and VP150 set to large is best. I don't think it's actually possible to set the main speakers to small without a subwoofer.

and also, what the location of your screen on the wall is. Myself, I am having installed an 88" screen (possibly also with the Panny 900, or the new Epson 550) soon and it will be fairly close to my 8' ceiling, so of course I will be putting my center speaker under the screen.

One nice thing about the Full Metal Bracket is that it will tilt and allow you to aim your center channel squarely at the audience, in case it is not already close to ear height.

So how do you like your 900? It gets great reviews.

If you have a sub, I would say small with an 80hz crossover on the receiver, and turn off/bypass the crossover knob on the sub. I have a 51" x 120" screen, and the vp150 is mounted below the screen. Keep in mind when you in the seated position, you want your eyes to be 1/6th to 1/3rd up from the bottom of the screen. You normally want your left/right tweeters as close as possible lined up with the center.

Is this your receiver?

Are you in the 30-day trial window?

Thanks

I have the screen placed so that the bottom of it is at 35 inchs from the floor - this only leaves about 10" - 12" above it for mounting the center speaker.
I also have two rows of seating and the center speaker is aimed at the head of some sitting in the first row.

I am very happy with my panny 900 - Thanks to Visual Apex (seller for recommendation)

Yes the reciever is a PIONEER VSX-1015TXK THX
I have had it about 6 or 7 weeks now and have been pretty happy with it for the cost.

Would the pioneer be able to drive 2 6ohm 150's?

That would be 3 ohm in parallel. Might be pushing it. Two VP150s could be run with a 2 channel amp and a "Y" connector.

Thanks for the tip with Visual Apex. I just went to their site and their price is $25 better than the guys I was thinking of going with. Plus, their service sounds really good. Think I'll make the leap!

David, MCACC sets the M22s "large" because they have reasonably good low bass, but this isn't the best choice when there's a good sub in operation, such as yours. As Randy suggested, set all speakers "small" with an 80Hz crossover.

On the center speaker, try turning the VP150 vertically on end and tilted back slightly. If the level seems too low bump it up 2-3dB over what it was after calibration.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Regarding above or below ... which ever brings it more inline with the listeners ear level I would think. Usually below I would imagine. I have read which ever you choose it needs to be "pointed" towards ear level at the sweet spot in the room.

I,ve got the panny 900 and my 150 is below the screen... I guess if I try and concentrate i can notice where the sound is coming from, but not when just regualrly watching. I think the key is keeping the 150 in the plane of the tweeters of your r/l front channels so that you have no wierd panning issues. I love my 150 with my 80s and would think that waterver" weakness" that sopme people claim the 150 has would be masked better by the 22s given all of the driver configurations of the above speakers.
