I'm getting restless and have changed my avatar. For fun, I thought I'd put a link to my old avatar here, just to be able to reflect on all the good times I had with it. Makes it easier to move on, you know?

Since the new board format makes all of a user's old posts now show the new avatar, if I didn't retire it here, there'd be no evidence that it had ever seen the forums.

I thought others could use this thread to similarly remind us of classic avatars that have entertained us all. You know, like Ken's cat on his shoulders or Tom's kids.

So, forever retired, here is medic8r's first avatar:

Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

My new avatar is not as legible as I would like, so when time permits, I may have to edit it.

Until then, here is the unshrunk pic, and the original that I cropped it from. I know you'll all enjoy

And the reason for the crop was...?

Cool idea, JP.

It would be interesting to see the progression of Peter's Stevatars and Graceatars, but I'm sure he has a website set up for that already anyway.

How in the world could any of you be bothered by my elephant when Bridgman had that scary-ass dog Avatar?

I had forgotten all about those guys... I think I was "blocking".

Medic8r, what does it mean when I go into a fetal position under my coffeee table everytime I see a picture of one of Bridgmans' dogs on the internet?

I don't know, but I laughed my ass off when I saw Tigger jumping on Siegfried and Roy. Had never seen that before! That's really awesome.

Except this one.

Didn't ever use these two as avatars, but certainly considered it.

Agreed, those are cute chil'uns.

I see you and I have about the same hairline (not that you would know, as I have yet to post my likeness in that thread).

I also note that your South Park doppleganger is, um, more follicularly blessed.

Thanks for sharing, O mayor of Bizarroworld. As agreed, I'll get myself a Belgian beer, stat! Well, after work, that is.

It's what's beneath the follicles that counts and, in that area, both you and Tom are blessed.

Thanks, guys. You are too kind. I am very fortunate for both my family and your friendship.

God made children seem cute so that their parents would not kill them. It also works for the dog.

I've got to hand it to JP for "follicularly". Genius. Unfortunately, that picture is several years old, and my overabundance of testosterone is only exacerbating my hair loss. Of course, it has other impacts, too.

Tom, I am just kidding, and no offense meant to any 'vette owners. Just having some fun.

You're right about that. I'm itching to get a sporty convertible, but additions to the house, student loans, etc are making me delay scratching that itch. Anyway, when I picture myself in a 'vette convertible, or a Z4, or Boxster, or somesuch, invariably my mind will drift over to people on the sidewalk muttering something about a mid-life crisis.

Of course, if I listened to Mark, I'd just imagine myself running over them and then chipping the evidence, and that'd fix that!

You'd be amazed how much better you can feel about a midlife crisis when you belittle others.

Get it? Chipper? Belittle others?

Man, I'm a freakin' riot.....

You guys crack me up!

Somebody hit Mark with some tear gas.

No, I've not yet acquired a midlife crisis car, but I certainly entertain the concept in idle moments. I have some process problems in that regard.

Apparently, I've been informed by my hip friends that Real Men don't drive either Boxsters or Miatas (Miati?). And there's a guy at my office that has wrecked the Z3/Z4 concept for me. Which leaves me with a Honda S2000, Pontiac Solstice (if you could find/buy one), a regrettably-discontinued Toyota MR2, something vintage and/or something that guzzles gas. I'm not a mechanic, and I've pushed enough Fiats and MG's in my life to understand the intangible costs. I mean, really, where I live (the beautiful Pacific Northwest), having a convertible anything is really a mixed blessing. You can only fantasize about driving it with the top down for about 3-4 months of the year and the rest of the time, it would just be noisy, moist and moldy. And during the Top-Down Weather, it's usually so freakin' hot and bright that you might not be comfortable anyway.

I never really cared as much about feeling/looking "cool" as I do about getting good Value. And I'm firmly on the "Happy Wife, Happy Life" plan. So, for me to indulge in a fun, sporty car, Julie would have to want the car more than she wants tile floors, air conditioning, furniture, etc.

The thing I DO have going for me is that often, when we see particularly curvaceous automobiles, my beautiful wife will rightly comment that she'd "look good in that". Then, invariably, one of the kids in the back of the minivan will snap us back to reality.

Keep hope alive!

Real men don't drive anything called "Solstice" either.

And boy, if real men don't drive Boxsters, I'd say they're missing out.

What you really need is an Enzo.

Dave, thanks for the avatar posts!

Tom, I know what you mean with the kids ruining the practicality of a 2-seater. If I did go with a convertible any time soon, I'd consider the new Volvo C70. Love the idea of a hardtop. For less money, Volkswagen is coming out with the Eos 4-seater hardtop.

My dream would be for Infiniti to make the G35 coupe into a convertible. Sadly, it seems they have no plans to do so. That would be stylish, with enough room in the back for small children! My favorite photoshopped hoax picture: link

JP, I find your current collage fairly disturbing. It's like a miniature Kubrick film.

Here are some versions of John Candy's Tom Tuttle that I considered but ultimately rejected.

I recognize that the current version is really "Uncle Buck", but I just feel it evolves and synthesizes Candy's Tuttlehood with my own in a satisfying way.

Sweeeeet. My film projects are just beginning, mwah ha ha. If only there were a soundtrack. I mean that everybody else could hear, too, not just the internal one that accompanies my everyday life.

So does Doc's latest mean he's come out of the closet and admitting he's bi-polar? IE: Speakergirl, Grammerbot and Spellingbot?

And the prize is: I tell you how to turn off Doc's ava... damn.

What I am referring to somewhat obliquely is Bill Cosby's mental theme song that he talked about on the album Wonderfulness in the segment entitled "Go Carts"

Obscure enough for you?

I'm not really retiring this avatar. I just like to put living things into caskets.

Also, do I get anything for staying the same forever?

How about a scoop of vanilla ice cream?

Actually, there's nothing vanilla about your avatar. I would only suggest changing it if you could make the new avatar an animated gif of the dragon/unicorn incident.

Thanks! This whole thread is also ridiculously overdue for an update.

My restless nature has led to frequent avatar changes (and sig file changes). As best I can recall, the ones used since last time have included, in rough chronological order,

a smiling walrus - how handsome!

Groovy Spiderman, dancing in the style of Napoleon Dynamite

The universal sign of the teenager

I still love the LOLcats, just don't shout about it as much any more.

Ah, beloved rainbow head!

Ah, beloved idol, Sigmund Freud!

I don't know what got into me on this one.

One of speakergrrl's past avatars

Afro Ninja, an internet meme seen most recently in the Weezer "Pork and Beans" video.

The Axiom Avatar Museum and Retirement Home is now accepting new members, fellas! Whatcha got?

That video (Link to Pork and Beans video) is pretty entertaining. I just saw it the other day. A lot of their videos are creative. My favorite being Keep Fishing featuring the Muppets - Good stuff.

The best part about that pic is that the photographer bothered to put another squirrel in the background.

I heard from a friend that it's National Man Day, so I went to the Facebook page that promotes it. I was struck by this picture there. #1 in the album of man-photos on display was this dude:

This was such an awesome picture that I had to try and avatarize it.

This will dethrone King LOLcat:

I think that that is all the new ones for now.

An added bonus is that I get to make Sean view another page with rainbow head man. When I visited, Sean told me how much he liked that particular avatar.

Funny. I would have cropped it exactly the opposite of how you did.

Wait.

I like beer, too.

OK, I would have cropped it exactly the way it was originally cropped.

Some of these are really funny. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd go with Will Ferrell and more cowbell. I cannot think of either one of those bits (the original and Ferrell playing with Queens of the Stone Age) on SNL without smiling. (Plus, what gets lost a little bit in the whole thing is that the QOTSA song itself is actually great, and was perfect for the Ferrel bit.)

I admire and respect the avatar loyalty, Stevie. I mean Rick. It certainly makes it easy to know whose post it is at a glance.

That said, I am too restless to keep the same avatar for long. And I can appreciate more funny avatars from others, like CatBrat, who cycle through them as quickly as I do. It's a win-win.

Doc I really get a kick out of the different avatars ... I'm just too boring!

Funny, whenever I was fast scrolling through this thread earlier I had to do a double take on CatBrat's Super Man squirrel, for some reason I had a completely different image in my head. That exploding lizard face guy is a little freaky though.

During a few weeks each fall, I celebrate Oktoberfest by changing my avatar. This year's emblem for beer and good times featured Hayden Panettiere's eyelashes. Your regularly scheduled avatar will resume next week.

Until she was all blown up, I couldn't tell who that was. I like beer, too.

My eyes keep getting drawn away from the lashes. Kind of like a trick picture.

But if you're going to be a skeleton with a beard, you have to be a pirate.

You should find out first if Mark feels the same way.
And still, I'd ask beforehand.

Now, for the original intentions of this thread. Here's the avatars I've used on this site, like, ever, and in order? And like, who cares, anyway.
