You can connect any audio source ( except a turntable ) to any of the audio inputs, it doesn't matter the tiltle of the input.

You will have to use the speaker switch box no matter what receiver you buy, I don't think one is made that has this ability.

Just a thought, and I do not mean to insult, but after I got my Axioms, I found that I didn't need bass or treble controls. Actually, I think I stopped using them when I got my Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble 1s, for that matter.

I'm with you Ken, I don't use them either.

Maybe you might want to get the Yamaha repaired instead of investing in a new receiver.

Interesting, but I don't see IMD in any of my specs, old or new. What's a good range for this?

I would have to think it is the same circuitry as the tape in/out, so it should work.

I really have no brand loyalty. As long as it has the power and features you are looking for then I would go for the lowest priced unit.

WS, welcome. Don't be concerned with distortion specs, either THD or IMD(rarely even specified). As Rick pointed out, the THD numbers you mentioned are all far below audibility. For example, blind listening tests have shown that THD has to be above about 1% to be audible when listening to music(rather than test-tones using headphones). Just about any modern solid state equipment amplifies transparently when operated within its designed limits.

Thanks! This seems odd, but do you agree that the video (sound) in/out can also serve as Tape In/Out, allowing recording? That would mean that some of these receivers have 3 or 4 virtual "tape in/outs"!

If you think about this, what would be the difference in recording the sound on a VCR or recording on a casette tape. So with this line of thinking it has to be the same.
