[image] [/image] [image] [/image] [image] [/image] [image] [/image] Please excuse my crappy old camera and meagre photo skills. M60s and VP150 at front QS8s and old mission bookshelves at back. The M80s should be here Monday.

Very nice! I like the all black setup- everything looks great and I'm sure the 5th Element looks and sounds great on that setup!

Nice looking set up, Lorenzo! I like your equipment stand. Dig the posters. Got the "Pulp Fiction" one in my living room.

Thanks guys. If I had only thought ahead about wiring a little more when I redid the room than those wires wouldn't be all over the place. I had a Sony rear projection crt with the 2 towers and bridge stand setup that hid all the wires nicely. After the plasmas started to drop in price I just couldn't resist the LG. A monoprice wall mount, a new receiver (elite vsx84txsi) and toshiba a2 later and now I've got the old stand sitting in my utility room wondering what to do with it. Actually the stand is a coffee table I got at Ashley furniture. I think it looks nice too and I just couldn't find a low stand I liked for a reasonable price.
Do you guys think my receiver will be enough to handle the 80s?

Lorenzo your place looks really great ... I do believe it would be a fairly easy task to relocate the wall plates if you ever decide to do so, just practice your drywall skills.

Lorenzo, the 84 most likely will be fine; at least you shouldn't assume that a problem will develop.

I recall Sushi had a Pioneer Elite receiver with his Hale speakers and they were a 4 ohm speaker.

I inherited those posters from a friend of mine. I own both Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction and prefer the latter. I liked both Kill Bill movies as well. A kill Bill poster of Uma wouldn't be a bad thing to own. I have a poster of the rules of "Fight Club" that I need to get dry mounted. Oops, I guess I shouldn't be talking about it.

Looks great!! Ahh, the 5th Element - what a great movie for system demos. Great sound, great picture - one of my favorite movies.
I have the 43TX, which is (to my understanding) the same receiver as the 45TX but without the auto MCACC stuff. Your 84 (lovely choice, BTW) is quite a bit newer, and I'm sure the amplification stage is newer/better. I'm quite happy with my receiver. Neither the 43 nor the 45 are rated to drive 4 ohm speakers. Can't say for sure about the 84. I emailed both Pioneer and Axiom about this, and both concurred that running 4ohm speakers is not a good idea.
So I decided to play it safe and order a dedicated amp when I ordered the M80's, and they both arrived on the same day (see other threads, yadda yadda yadda).
I can tell you that I do not like the way my M80's sound when powered by the receiver alone. I've tried it, and was dissapointed. Send-them-back dissapointed. Powered by the Pioneer, the highs seemed too bright, and the bass was ok, but not great. Their "room presence" was lacking and the soundstage was diminished; far less real and enveloping. Of more serious note, at loud (near-reference) volume levels there was some weird stuff going on with high vocals sounding like they were breaking up. One of my favorite test tracks, Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me", sounded just plain bad when she hit the high notes. I've never had someone show me what clipping sounds like, but that would be how I would describe what was happening.
All of those problems immediately dissapeared when powered by LPA-1. There's way more depth to recordings. The M80's dissapear into the room and create a wonderful soundstage. Bass, mids, and highs are all balanced and create a rich, full, and wonderful experience. I can play the M80's at dangerous-to-your-hearing levels and they sound absolutely astounding and the amp doesnt' seem to care.
I bought the LPA-1 from Emotiva for my system because it was reasonably inexpensive, reviewed well, and is rated to drive 4 ohm loads. I thought I would be able to get away with running the M80's from the Pioneer, but there's no way I'd do that now that I've heard what M80's are capable of even with my meager LPA-1. The M80's are wonderful, and I love my SVS sub, but that amp might be the best $500 I've ever spent in my home theater.

Look what just showed up!!! It's the first time I have ever had a courier ask me for help to carry packages though!!! At least I know that he didn't drop them off the back of the truck. I wonder what a new pristine axiom box looks like? These look like they've been re-used.

No more Double boxes, but improved packing materials!!! Manual and neat accessories box wit da feet. I went with the rubber feet, spikes to hard to move on thick carpet. A little spot on the top front edge where the vinyl doesn't extend, I guess that's why it's B stock. The other speaker had a few small nicks but nothing major. One of the grills had the mounting peg broken off, I'm not sure if they're supposed to come like that as B stock or not. Should I e-mail them and ask??? Now that's surround sound! Which club am in now and what do I do with the spares? In place and singing away. I have to say these sound pretty good with my elite. It's supposed to be 140 wpc but we all know about these kind of ratings. We'll have to see how things work out. I've been browsing audiogon and e-bay for a cheap 2 channel like acurus or ati but no luck yet.

M60's and M80's side-by-side. Axiom porn at it's finest! Congrats on the purchase, those look really nice. FYI, one of my m80's also had a broken clip on the speaker grill, and Axiom is sending me a new grill. Mine were regular stock, not outlet - so YMMV. I'm happy to hear that your Pioneer can power them effectively. They make great receivers, and I'm glad to hear they continue to improve them!

I thought my M80 had a broken clip on the grill, but as I remember, it popped back into place. Could be wrong.

The grill peg or post was broken off and still in the mount on the speaker on mine. I e-mailed Noreen at 1:21 pm, she e-mailed me back at 1:37 pm to tell me they are sending me a new grill tomorrow. Another example of great Axiom customer service. Thanks Noreen!!!

Holy $^@#. Cleanup on register 6! Does Axiom have a 12 step program for such a thing? You may need to sign up! Quote:

I wish I could say I still owned all the speakers, but then that *might* be overkill. Just a change in finish so only 1 set of speakers remain, but not before I took some pics just for fun.

EP500 manual and accessories EP500 back, yikes look at all those controls.... My STF-2 never looked this complicated Front view STF-2 and EP500 Ready to rumble!!! I did have to remove the ground screw as I had a but of a hum going on. Pulled out the old radio shack meter and dialed her in and boom, boom, boom. Still have some tweaking to do but that's what makes this fun!

Lorenzo, looking at the photos of the unboxing process makes me want to order something just to go through that feeling again.
Looking good! I think you have ample speakerage now.

Un-boxing everything and setting them up was more work than I thought it was going to be. The 80s were no problem but that sub is a real monster. Whoever suggested casters for this thing may be on to something.

I know what you mean. It's a lot of work moving them around. Once you find the sweet spot for placement, your back will thank you.
