Many of you may know that I'm a collector of comic book original art. Well, I've had the notion of starting an artists rep business in this field for awhile, and I think I'm finally going to give it a go. I need a name. I'd always wanted a comic business named "The Funny Farm", but alas, just about every iteration of that is taken on the web. I thought of "Wednesday's Heroes"...though that may be too obscure. I figured you guys came up with some great stuff for Axiom, I'd pick your brains as well. The only prize I can offer is my gratitude. Sorry...no free speakers here.

This really does not answer your question but thought I would mention this if you had any ideas. I have a very good friend that happen to come across a great deal on about 160,000 comics. I think he is down to about 120,000 now as the owner of mile high comics in Colorado came last year and purchased some of them. I really think he has a gold mind and if he would have sold them on Ebay a box at a time like I told him to, he would have probably made a huge profit. Some are very old and rare. Anyway, if someone has interest or if they know someone that would be interested in buying in bulk. Let me know. Now back to the regular scheduled thread.

Craig, can you explain exactly what an artist rep does? Is he like an actor's agent? Maybe if you can give us as much info as you can it will stiumulate the little gray cells.

I don't get it, what do you think he's trying to sell?
Spiff - how about Rep-man? Or a take off of other reps in other industries like: League of Boras? Lame, I know.
What are your favorite comics, you can come up with a tribute or homage?

here's a few things I'd be doing
1) nuturing new talent 2) networking with other established artists and editors, which should lead to work for my people 3) selling artists pages of work - freeing up their time to focus on creating 4) acting as a go-between for commission works. Clients would contact me if they wanted a commission from one of my artists. Again, freeing up the artists time. Also, many artist (people in general really) don't like dealing with the public.
The biggest thing I hope to be able to do really is nurture new talent. Give them some exposure. Push them to go further than they think they can. Most artists I've spoken with aren't very secure in their abilities. They are their worst critics, and don't really know the enormous talent they have.
This is really something I want to do for the pure love of it. If I can accomplish the above goals and break even I'll be thrilled.

I assume you want a business name whose logical .com domain is not already taken? I had a few, but when this one popped into my head, I forgot the rest.
Uninvisible Ink
You're trying to represent artists, right? I'm sure there are many talented comic artists who's work is not very 'visible'. Your job is to turn the invisible visible.

Not to me!
Wednesday:comic books::Tuesday:DVDs
Get it?
Wednesday is when the new comics come out every week. Kinda like Tuesday is new release day for CDs and DVDs, and Friday is for those things that I used to pay too much money to go see, with the loud people and the crappy advertisements and inferior sound and, hey - did I mention that I love my Axioms?!
Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

Uninvisible Ink is terrific. (But, if you incorporate, would you then be "Uninvisible Ink, Inc."? )
Would "Visible Ink," be a wiser choice? Though not as clever, it would be a bit shorter, perhaps be a little less confusing thus easier to remember, and still make the point. In business, "simple" is good.

And I don't care what you said earlier. I want speakers!

Unbreakable Comics
Ties into a great movie by M. Night about comics.
I recently have gotten into the World of Warcraft collectible card game (I play the online game too). Most of the art has been done by people in the business (ie Todd McFarlane) and I have to say the artwork on those cards is partly why I enjoy playing it so much. My wife doesn't know it yet (she plays too) but her bday present is going to be 2 art sets that upperdeck is releasing based on that game.
Whatever name you choose, I wish you the best of luck in finding new talent. I for one can do math, read at great speeds and troubleshoot anything mechanical or electrical with ease....but have NEVER been able to draw. I respect those who can.

Hi Spiffy
I like what you came up with.
"Wednesday's Heroes" might be obscure to someone like me; but to anyone in the business it makes a lot of sense.
I think it's very complimentary to your target market and would be a good selling point for your venture.
Go with it!
Good luck with this, it sounds like a perfect mix of fun and businsess.

I though about Visible Ink, too, but there's already a business with that name, and the website even has a comic book on the front page.

Going along (again) with Jack's idea, what about just "Ink, Inc."?

I like Wednesday's Heroes... Uninvisible Ink gets a bit confusing and doesn't roll off the tongue. One root word with two contradictory prefixes.
And if it's an online-only business... a quick explanation on the splash page clues in anyone not in the know... if it's bricks-n-mortar, a poster of an artist-drawn panel of a character explaining the name is kind of cool.
Just my two cents.

I already have this site for my own collection www.daredevil-art.com, but as it has a known character name in it, I thought it may be too specific. Besides that, as a collector, a decent number of people already know me as that guy who collects daredevil art. I don't want that rubbing off on the artists.

Thanks for the ideas. To get a final idea of where everyone's heads are at: fyi...just using all of this great feedback as a tool. I could end up using something completly different.
