I read a troubling review at audioreview.com, its the first review on this page.... web page Basically it says that unless your room is specially sound treated then the center will sound bad. Several reviews mention that when listening to dialogue that S's sound very bad. Have any of you experienced this? My living room is probably bad for acoustics so I am hesitant about getting a center from axiom.

In short, the answer to your question is "No". I don't hear any sibilance. You can see how acoustically bright my room is below. I can sit as much as 60 degrees off-axis (in the cushy chair) with no loss of understandability during music or movies. I do however agree that timber changes somewhere around 45 degrees. It's been said around here many times before that many recordings are engineered with their high frequencies boosted to satisfy people like my wife who listen to music on their boomboxes. If you have recordings like that, use the treble control to tame the highs.

You will always find some bad reviews, but I think you'll find more positive reviews than bad.
Every room and set up is different and I think a lot of people do not take the time to properly balance and set up their system.
I've been very happy with my VP150, I used to have it on top of my TV but it's fairly heavy so I wall mounted it. This looked good but it was a little high and the diaologue seemed a little off. I have since moved to below my TV and it is way better and in my set up I believe the ideal placement.
Another common suggestion around here (among other places) is to get a matching center channel to your mains. So if you're looking at M22's for example, get 3 across the front. A lot of other users here have had great success running M2 or M3's as centers or dual centers having 1 above and 1 below the screen. Another Axiom owner has 2 spread out around 14" in the center of his room.
I'm sure you'll get a few more responses as well.
Good luck.

That room, the couch, and the speakers make your TV look small.

I don't want to hi-jack this post but you've twisted my arm . My monitor is 32". I had 7 monitors that I was evaluating for that space (yes, I bought them all, set them up, auditioned them and returned 6). Of these 7, 3 were 42" to 46". I and others felt that the picture was not clear enough with these larger sets. I am very happy with this size and the clarity is simply outstanding. Note too that the mount allows me to pull the monitor 20" away from the wall. That would put the monitor less than 6 feet away from my listening position but I don't feel that I need it. Incidentally, one of my buddies bought the 42" the same night he saw my 32". A week later he exchanged it for the 32" because he could see pixels, etc.

I really don't see the review you listed as bad...I see it as honest. I have a brand new VP150 and I think it is outstanding! I have owned 2 previous centers and this one is by far the best. As previously stated, you "may possibly" want to adjust your treble level on your reciever to -1, or maybe even -2 to take off the edge if waranted in your environment. As for bass output...it has plenty!

Thanks for the responses guys.
I'm looking at getting a 5.1 system from axiom near the end of the year. I was thinking two m22, two q8, and the 150 center. I'm not sure on the subwoofer, or even if I will need one at all, but axiom subs seem very expensive.

There are certain people in this world who thrive on their own misery and who endeavor with all their energy to make you share it.
Certain amateur VP150 reviewers suffer this trait.
I think my VP100 sounds great. I've never heard the VP150. You don't have anything to lose with the 30-day trial period. If you like it, that's great. If you don't, send it back.
Look, lots of people really like Axiom speakers. Some people don't care for them (for reasons that are a complete mystery to me) and are very vocal about it. Whatever floats your boat.
Not to the Original Poster, but... This again reminds me of the Sweet Potato Queens' Big Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner: "Get happy, don't get happy; it's the shuttin' up that counts".
You'll probably want a sub. The EP500 is a monster, but you could also consider options from Hsu, SVS, Outlaw and others in the $500-800 range if you need to save some money (and are willing to sacrifice accordingly). Any of those would be great.

Good comments. One thing to keep in mind is there are only 5 reviews on that site that rate it at 3 or less, 16 give it a perfect 5, and 2 give it a 4. So overall, most people agree with the crowd here that the VP150 is a great center channel speaker. Of course, the newest review is over 2 years old, so who knows how that factors in. I know that two years ago there were "other" A/V forums where if you mentioned Axiom (or other "mail order" brands) around there, you were flamed pretty badly. Not because they had actually HEARD the speakers, but just because that is the general attitude at some of those really large forums. I went through the same thing with my projector. I have a Sanyo Z3, and boy did that tick off some people that I didn't buy "their" projector. That is why I don't visit those sites any more. People get into pissing matches over stupid things without having heard, seen, or used competative products. Where are you located? Maybe someone can set up an audition for you. That is how we roll here (love my gangsta talk? ). We try to help each other out and we don't get paid to do it. We will give honest opinions and try to steer you correctly. If Axiom isn't it, so be it. We won't flame you, or call you names, but just tell you to enjoy what you've got.

The larger subs from Axiom are not cheap, that is for sure. But they are AWESOME from what I hear and have won some awards and get great reviews. Myself, I was in the market for a ncie big sub when I got my Axioms, and at the time Axiom didn't offer what I wanted (didn't have the EP400, EP500, or EP600), so I went with another company that only made subs and got a better "bang for the buck" sub. If I could do it again today, though, I would pay a little more and get a nicer Axiom sub.
My original "budget" was to get a 5.1 set up of speakers for less than $1500 (I was looking at M22 fronts, QS4 surrounds, a VP100, and an 8" to 10" sub.) A "basic" Axiom setup.)
Once I understood what size and style speakers I *needed* (which were more than what I originally *wanted*) I ended up with a 5.1 setup that at the time would cost $2700. That was almost twice what I was hoping for. So I waited a little longer, and got speakers that I can't imagine having anything less than.
