Unless someone has something to say that will change my mind, I think I'm going to Costco tomorrow to grab that Phillips 60PP9202 Epic 60" HDTV for $1599. Am I blowin' it?

you're only blowin' it if you can't pay it off your CC in a couple months.

Otherwise, add the interest and see what it'll cost ya.

[InFocus X1 or Sanyo Z1] + [very nice 100" screen] + [zero footprint] + [better front-wall acoustics] = $1600

pmbuko, cash money baby. You know BigWill believes in liquidity.

sushi, I just can't get excited about a front projector. The setup would be a hassle in my family room, the wife will trip, and from what I heard they run hot and noisy. If it was a dedicated HT, well maybe...

Sorry to hear that, Mark. I cannot refute the former two points. Yeah, I understand the psychological hassle of the two-piece setup (although it's all relative, and once it's set up, it "disappears" in the room).

But the last one is a common minunderstanding: The latest dedicated HT projectors are very quiet (you just don't hear it during the movie) and produce no more heat than a couple of 60W lamps.

I read in a magazine that the cooling fans can be audible in the less expensive projectors (they were reviewing a $10,000 projector). I have no idea. The only one I ever saw in person was at a store about a week ago. The picture was huge, but not as crisp and bright as the RPTV. Could have been the lighting, but was probably due to the sheer size. We'll be sitting only 13' away, so 100" may be over kill.

I had to say it. It took me a little while to learn the true evils of the CC. I use one only rarely now -- and never for audio equipment. That's a self-applied rule to keep me realistic on upgrade choices.

You can use it as much as you want as long as you follow one simple rule...NEVER carry a balance!

I have my X1 a foot and a half away from me on the coffee table and have yet to complain about its sound. It is fairly inaudible when the sound is not playing. It rivals the sound of my air condition with is pretty quiet. Well the heat factor can be a small issue. I run the central air when I watch with the PJ and even though it is a foot and half away it still doesnt bother me. If you ceiling mount it, it is far away enough that you don't notice it. All my amps combined produce more heat than my X1. Mind you I run 3 amps. I've also made it wife friendly (and she is by no means a techy person) by using a programmable learning remote which does all the primary functions and if not a simple button can be programmed for a macro to do a couple of steps. The FP setup does quad duty of cable TV, DVD/VCD player, Playstation duties and a HTPC setup.
Yes the FP is not for everyone but a lot of people are turned off at first due to its possible complexity in setup and has possibly has not seen a proper FP HT setup.

Aw shucks, my moving help couldn't make it out today. He said the traffic coming out of Garbage Grove was too heavy, how about tomorrow, blah, blah, blah... You would think after all the good advice I've given him (he's my lil' bro) he would feel more obligation to come and help a guy out.

Hey Mikey, feel like driving to Corona to help me move a big screen? Beers at the brewery on me of course!
