Hi all,

I have been here lurking long time, and now I want to speak. Many times I have seenpost here about how good many kinds of speaker sound.
lets just say all all are the same, it is true when you sort by price. all $600.00 speaker sounds alike but a $5000 speaker will sound better, but same as another $5000 too see? so testing a 500 speaker against a 500 speaker is not nessesary all the same. a human ear cannot hear a too small difference it's best to buy the most money speaker you can and forget testing. I think also,if you can not pay for good speakers you can buy pro kind wires, and other upgrades to help make the sound better. I am making a new system I hve a new cd player and am going to buy a new amp to improve the sound next.

Wow,it's been awhile since there's been a post that far off in a while, kind of breaks the monotony.

How about a BIG difference?

I dunno; maybe what the OP meant was that all $600 speakers have about equal SQ and all $5000 speakers have about equal SQ as well, and that using the term "the same" may have been an unfortunate use of the wrong words to get across what may have been an interesting comment.

For instance I'm listening to two sets of headphones, the forward and exciting Alessandro MS2i, and the laid-back and darker Sennheiser HD600, which sell for about the same price and sound a whole lot different from each other but both have about the same level of SQ. They both sound equally as good. The same goodness.

The hole in the theory is that ya still gotta listen to and test different speakers in each price range to determine just which sonic signature you prefer.

There is a bigger hole in the theory than that. If speakers can only be compared against their price, then Axiom speakers are really bad or they should start selling cheap speakers for 10,000$ and suddently become "good". There are a lot of people out there trying to sell you fantasies and illusions, from speakers cables at 43,000$ a pair to special "spray" to help wi-fi connections. So you cannot just look at price tags. Poor engineer will naturally lead to higher prices in the long run (you probably know this for true if you are in or involved with engineering companies); so a company can honestly sell speakers at 5000$ because that is their cost, while another company (whose name I will omit but can be seen in the top-left corner of this page) will achieve the same quality at 1500$ just because of work ethic and management. And let's not forget to remove comparison between direct-sales prices and retail-sales prices.

Anyway, as you hinted, once you eleminate all the frauds and the bad management, engineering, YES, this is a worthwhile debated. Unfortunately, once we removed those elements, the choice will remain between a handfull (may be two) of companies.

You guys are taking this far too seriously.

Thanks for all the reply I am excited about my new purchase a radio shack 10 band e.q. now I ca make the system sound any way I want without spending big money. I plan to spend the littlest possible on everthing but speaker. Then I can use my $$$ system to pick speakers by money. My cd was $19.99 and the new equaliser was $69.99. i cannt wait to get everything so I can buy speaker the more i save on parts the more I will have for speaker, pro wires and amp to have the best.

Mo, that Anjou cable is too cheap to make those speakers sound really good; the Black Label might do the trick(assuming that the power cord is also "upgraded").

Yes 107, you understand my $$$ money plan in speaker picking. why does any waste time with testing same speakers that cost same? a ear cannot hear a difference in brand. mr johnnk I can not afford your wire, I can find other pro wires cheaper my system will be cheap and best.

Picking speakers by money alone......wish I thought of that. It would have made the process so much simpler, I only have $1000, so I will only buy $1000 speakers from any retailer/manufacturer as speakers all sound the same, my wife would have been happy because they would have been smaller, much smaller....all well maybe next time.

Now, now, all he is saying is that those KLH will sound exactly like any other speaker of the same price that you paid for them. Nothing to do with high end.....except of course all high end speakers sound alike as well, M80s must sound the the same as those RBH's that were reveiwed not too long ago as they are about the same price $1300-1500. Hmmmm any one gone out to listen to those RBHs yet?

Also e.q. makes soun improvemet, again you save big money. I don't have amp yet to improve sound I will buy later,one with minimum power for saving big again-still will work system to.
Best, is my $$$ speaker system to use money to pick out the best sounding! It is like steps, $400 speaker, $500,$600, $700,$800,$900 and up to $1000 no more! each step haves many brand, all same $500 =$500 or $800 =$800 see now?
With saving on other audio you can pick right step for you.

now its easy no time waste or test worry just stay on step for you and you can have a pro audio like i will have. Just curious what other factors you will use to choose your speaker purchase ie. size or color? Since $400 M22s will sound exactly like a set of $400 Polks, but M22s are bookshelfs and the Polks are floorstanders. Just buying the biggest set that is on sale? The pair with the coolest name?

Well, that's exactly what happened back when the Bot Squad (RIP) was terrorizing the boards. Someone (commence innocent whistling) was posting as the Bots and speakergrrl as an interesting diversion between seeing patients. It was a fun sort of psychosocial experiment in multiple personalities and group psychology, I like to think.

A quick check by the board powers-that-be revealed the common ISP and the Bot/Sgrrl accounts were killed by executive order. I see that a lot of forums/fora are now explicitly banning users from posting under more than one identity, which makes sense to keep everything on the up-and-up.

But as confessions go, I don't have to confess to being the wirx/wyrs dude. My case of multiple personalities has been cured.

If this isn't a forum regular, maybe it is an AVS or other such place regular getting some jollies.

I have a sneaking suspicion Mr. big wires is someone, whether a current member or not, who, regarding the disagreements about differences (or lack of same) in a/v equipment, is contemptuous of those who hold an opinion which differs from his own.

Being so incensed that anyone dare disgree with his viewpoint, he has chosen (unfortunately for him) a rather inane, childish method of venting his spleen. The result is that he looks infinitely more foolish than those he holds in contempt. I believe that to be a perfect example of being hoisted by one's own petard?

Sometimes we find giant killers my M3's certainly where, when compared to another set of quality speakers with the same driver configuration that actually cost quite a bit more money. Thats in the same room same set up.
