Hay, I am talking about the internal xbox dvd drive in comparison to the a2. The content I was viewing was a standard def. dvd of transformers.

The internal xbox dvd drive is supposed to have some upconverting capabilities. I always thought dvd's looked great on it, but they looked even better on my a2.

I will watch some hd dvd content on the player tonight or tomorrow.

Great, thanks for clearing that up. I'm still on the fence deciding if I want to go for the 360 HD DVD drive (Christmas) or wait to see if Canadians get any deals this holiday season through Toshiba.

MarkSJohnson, if you could do an A/B between these 2 players it would be greatly appreciated.

I have some friends that have the hd-dvd addon for the 360. Haven't seen it in action but they seem to like it.

If you have a non-hdmi version of the xbox like most then you might want to check if that will allow you to take advantage of the new surround sound formats.

I am not sure how component cables with optical audio works with these new formats.

besides that, one disadvantage to the hd-dvd addon for xbox is i think your 360 will be running during movies, and the fan in that bad boy can get loud at times. of course that shouldn't be a problem except MAYBE during really quite dialog scenes.

I have always been under the idea that gaming systems are for games and movie palyers are for movies... but eitherway you decide I'm sure you will be pleased.

Hey Hay:
Unfortunately, I won't be able to compare them as my XBox 360 just died. I won't have it back from Microsoft for probably 6 weeks and figured I'd "Craigslist" the HDDVD drive before then since I now have the Toshiba.....

How the heck do I create this ISO CD? I downloaded the files from toshibas website, unzipped them, went into the Sonic Record Now burning software. It seems to recognize the 35mb ISO file as it has an icon. I then created a data CD and moved the stuff to a cd. When loaded in the player it says no disc found, I'm using a CD-R just like the instructions say.

I may take this thing back, seems like a lot of headaches just to try to get it working with my projector.

"moved the stuff" as in you copied the ISO to the data CD?

You should just have a menu item about burning from the ISO. An ISO is a CD image; you may even just be able to right click and choose "Burn to CD" or something like.

This site appears to have instructions. Packard Bell???

It is important that you don't just copy the files on a data CD since it is a bootable disk for whatever OS is run on the machine (I think it is Linux).

This is ridiculous guys. You really should take this kind of crap back. No one should have to go through this kind of headache. I have no problem with having to spend time upgrading but if you can't get the functionality you paid for without having to go through all kinds of contortions, that just means to me that the manufacturer has poor control over quality or very simply doesn't care about its customers.

Just a quick look at Record now and I didn't see anything about ISO burning. I use Alcohol (the cause of, and solution to, all life's problems) for burning ISOs.
Alternately Oppo recommends using the BurnAtOnce freeware ( http://www.burnatonce.net/downloads/ ) for their firmware upgrades:
# Click on "File".
# Choose "Load New Image..."
# Choose the saved firmware image file from your computer.
# Load a blank CD-R disc and click the big "Write" button. .

Randy just download this freeware program. It's very easy to use.
