...so for example, if I was playing music on my Mac with another media player such as RealPlayer, would it work ?

Such issues scared me out of buying a Mac earlier in the year though I have some buyers remorse I have to say. I am now trying to answer this question so as not to embarass myself advising a girlfriend.

That would be an Apple Airport Express--Mac is the computer, Apple is the company. Pet peeve.

Out of the box, it works only with iTunes, but third party software called Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba software is available. This will allow you to stream any audio from your computer to the Airport Express.

Wait, so to dumb this down enough that the masses can understand it... PC is a dull "suit"... Mac is a hipster that I want to punch in the face and tell to stand up straight... so what's Apple then? If it's not represented by an orthochromatic personification, I just can't understand the concept.

Not Mac bashing... just hate those friggin' commercials.

Airfoil is the solution. It can stream audio from any program to one more Airport Expresses.
