Hello,

I have a Crown XTi-1000 that I use to power my subwoofer. It does not have a remote turn on input. Does anyone know of a product that I can plug the power cable into that has a remote turn on input to essentially add that feature? To clarify, I want a unit that plugs into the wall outlet and then my amp plugs into it. The unit's switch could be controlled by the receiver. Does that make sense?

Thanks,

Andrew

If your receiver has a switched outlet you can purchase something like a Belkin PureAV power console that has switched outlets. You plug your amp into the switched connection on the power center then run the switched cord to the receiver and the amp will power up when the receiver turns on.

I'm troubled by these sentences in the description: "A maintained 10-30VDC supply capable of supplying 100 mA or more is required to turn on the outlets. This can be supplied by a Furman PowerLink, ASD-120, or PS-8R (with a simple internal modification to the PS-8R). "

This Belkin Unit is the type that several here own, myself included. Unfortunately, it's more expensive than the unit you noted.

Maybe Radio Shack has something that can operate via remote?

that's interesting. So you can set certain outlets to turn on when there's current draw from others?

Yes.

For instance, it will use a switched outlet on a receiver to, for example, draw one watt. When the receiver is turned on and the Belkin can draw that one watt, it "wakes" whatever banks of outlets you have set to turn on. If I remember correctly, you can leave other banks to be "on" all the time.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong- it's been awhile since I set mine and it was "set it and forget it".

Looks cool too:

I wish they would put that feature set on the UPS. I'd love to have something to trigger my sub on--right now it just sucks down juice, all the time.

too bad its $85.[/quote]

A couple years ago I bought a powerstrip type gizmo that would turn on an outlet(s) when a draw was detected from a specific one. It was like $30. I used it to turn on the 2ch amp driving my center at the time. It introduced slight but very irritating distortion into whatever speaker the amp was driving. Drove me nuts troubleshooting as everything was new or newly combined- vp150,new used amp,new used processor, new player, etc. I finally removed the dam powerstrip gizmo and the distortion left.
My advice- spend more than $85, not less. Those belkin units look sweet at the price the guys on here score them for.

I used to have an X-10 module that plugged into the wall outlet and activated an entire surge protector full of stuff. X-10 is the cheaper made, home automation stuff. Very fun to play with. If you have a compatible remote, you could use it for a single button press solution to, dim the lights, power on all your gear, start the popcorn machine, etc.....

I had X-10 compatible light switches and various appliance modules in my old house. I had a 3 button switch by the bed with one button for the morning that turned on my bedroom light, bathroom light, stairway light, kitchen light and started the coffee maker. I won a wireless, rotating camera from their web sight but I never got around to installing that.

--------
That is what you asked for right? Another addictive hobby involving electronic expenses...
--------

If I start this in the new place, I'll probably go with a better quality system. The X-10 stuff is cheap and fun but there is much better quality if you are serious.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.
