Finally retired the 36" CRT and replaced it with a 61" DLP and swapped out my fluorescent ceiling lights for some sconces with dimmer.

Before:

After: (with lights on max)

(Lights dimmed) Camera flash lit up the area.

Now I just need some pictures, acoustic panels or art.

Very nice!

What's funny is that several people I know call sconces scones. I guess they could put scones on their walls....

Nice going Stymie, I betcha those lights really liven up the place and that big TV must really add some ambiance. \:D

Your place looks extremely nice, and it must sound incredible.

Thanks guys. The scones ;\) make a huge difference. I don't have to rely on a lamp any longer for finding/using my remotes and the amber glow is pretty cool. Oh yeah, the TV is pretty cool too.

Just got done watching the Orange Bowl while listening to some smooth jazz via my Squeeze Box. Life is good. At least until the baby wakes up. \:\/

Very nice, Sty; the new lighting gives the room a warmer ambience.

I love the sconces, but the blanket over your chair really ties the room together. \:\)

I might just have to add some sconces and take out the recessed lights, as I really like that look, wait the kids would have those knocked off the walls in no time which is why I went with the recessed lighting.

WOW! Much mo' betta! The sconces make for a very warm, inviting room. However, it's the TV that is the "biggest" difference (pun intended \:\) ).

Thanks everyone. It's funny when you change a few things and it seems like a whole new room that you've never been in before. It was somewhat of a pain to get them in and the old lights out, but it was well worth the effort.

Most important of all, it garnered a high WAF. \:\)

Very nice. I'll bet there's many fights over the "captains" chair.

Not too many, my wife typically picks a sofa.

Nah, I just have a 5.1 setup. I don't have a rear wall to use as the "theater nook" opens up to a larger room and hanging them from the ceiling would put them in the way.

To help put some finishing touches on it, I went out today and picked up a couple of framed prints to put in between the sconces over each sofa.

How do you like the mains on stands? Did you notice a change in vocals seeing how the tweeters are now above ear level?

Actually, I couldn't notice a difference when I'm in the nook. I ran them on the ground for a long time and them moved them up on a pair of stands for a while, then back down and then back up. They are currently sitting on a pair of end tables which gives them a nice sturdy base. I ended up going this route to avoid cranking to insane levels when I trying to listen to them in other areas of the room beyond the nook.
