If it is the same as the 3802, the 02 is the year, so you have had it 6 years, give or take a few months if you bought it new.

Still, the T785 has got to be (and ought to be given it sells for the full $3K retail from Audio Advisor for instance) a step up from what I have and vs. the 3808
and this is where the blind testing comes in etc.

I totally agree if it is that much more price wise then it should be that much better but for $3000. But why not opt for the A1400-8? A few hundred more and you definately get more wattage than 195 per channel.

I would avoid NAD this go around. Wait till they are on their second or third generation HDMI units. With HDMI comes a whole new can of worms. Denon is clearly the leader with high bit rate audio processing. In two years the playing feild will be leveled as each manufacture learns from their mistakes, but for now, I'd stick with Denon. Even Yamaha, Onkyo and Pioneer are all still strugling with HBR audio in one form or another. The 08 line of Denons are rock solid.

One note of caution. I read in AVS that it may have some issues with surround backs when playing Master Audio. It's in the official denon 3808 thread over at AVS for those who are interested.

I have heard that on the 3808 audessey multi-EQ has problems with 6.1 and 7.1. The firmware upgrade resolves this issue. I wonder if the firmware update fixes the DTS MA problems as well?

If not I would bet they will update it soon

Maybe it's just false alarm. I just read this:

"This is to clarify the DTS HD MA scenario. The Denon 3808CI DOES play the DTS MA HD sound correctly, however, the input lights do no light up 7.1. The output lights show all 7.1 channels being output, but the signal being input is mislabeled as being 5.1.
All 7.1 channels work, just the lights don't light up, and last thing I do is stare at the lights, so, not a big issue. "

I just upgraded AVR 883 to AVR 4308 $1928 at Crutchfield. I have M60's Vp150 and 3 QS-8's with a Klipsch RW10. The change really brought appreciation for the Axiom's. I must say that it takes me a long time to get familiar with the receiver. Accessing all my music on the computer network is great along with HD radio and infinate number of internet radio stations.
