I've been hankerin' for a glass (or is it a bottle?) of wine all day. I'm heading over to ye olde wine shoppe on my way home and grabbing a bottle.
What are some of your favorites? I don't just mean a particular varietal, but vineyard, vintage, etc...
I'm going to grab some sort of crisp white for tonight...I'll let you know what it was and how it was tomorrow.

Hey Spiffnme,
My girlfriend and I were introduced to some wonderful wines from a vineyard not too far from you called Wente (Livermore Valley). We love the cabernet and the merlot is a close second. We find it perfect for dinner or relaxing while listening to music. It is also VERY reasonably priced (<$15 a bottle delivered to Florida).

I was getting all excited, but then you said white.
If you like reds grab a Castle Rock Pinot Noir if you can. Around $10, but very excellent. I just finished a bottle 15 minutes ago.

My wife and I are both red wine lovers. Have a bottle on the dinner table at least thrice a week. Not highly knowledgeable or anything, but always try to get inexpensive but good wines by the case (we subscribe to Wine Spectator). And yes, Pinot Noir in classical Burgogne style is my favorite varietal. I envy you guys who live near the wineries in NoCal and elsewhere.

Well I grabbed an inexpensive bottle of Berringer Chenin Blanc. I wanted white, because I was having a salad for dinner. It wasn't what I wanted. It wasn't bad, but I guess I was really in the mood for something a tad sweeter tonight. Possibly a Muscat.
Roger (my bf) and I recently went on a wine tour of Santa Barbara. That was fun! I had the best red wine ever at a winery called "Sunstone" (Do a google search, they have a website). Their "Eros" red, is GREAT!

Just did a day trip to the Russian River Valley and picked up some great wines...
As far as whites, I tasted a really nice Chardonnay by Rochioli, it was $33 and the only reason I didn't get it is because I'm more of a red wine guy . As far as others Kendall Jackson has a good Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay.
My new favorite red wine is a 2000 Gary Farell Dry Creek Valley Maple Vineyards Zinfandel. I think Gary Farell might only be available by mailing list or on-site sales, but if you can find it, I highly recommend it. It's a bit expensive though ($30). They also make a fantastic mix they call Encounter. I forget what exactly was in it, but it was $60 and I was tempted to get it despite the price. Another favorite is Martinelli (not to be confused with Martinelli's sparkling cider) 2001 Guiseppe and Luisa Zinfandel ($36). And on the budget side, Cline makes a nice Zin around $10.
