Sushi,

would it be safe to say that the M80's are really only rated at 4 ohms because it's the lowest it goes?

it seems to teeter more on the 5 ohm side of things

Right. The impedance of a speaker should supposedly never dip below the nominal ohm rating at any frequencies. But in reality, numerous "4-ohm" speakers go well below 4 ohms at certain frequencies. The M80 is correctly and honestly rated in that sense.
