Does anyone have any suggestions for audio DVDs with excellent sound recording? I'm not looking for DVD-audio but audio DVDs that I can play in my DVD player. One that is immensely popular on Amazon that I'm going to get is The Eagles-Hell Freezes Over (DTS version) . Thanks

Depends on your musical interests. Hell Freezes Over used to be my demo CD for guests, and still gets taken out if they want more.
I think the Ultimate in Sound Quality for me now, has to be the new Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Live at Radio City Music Hall. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! It's now the first one I pull out to impress people.
Some others, if your tastes can take you there.
Metallica - S&M, Metal and an Orchestra, it really does work.....
Nine Inch Nails - Live Beside you in Time There are tracks on this that sound so good that even people who would normally hate NiN start getting into it.
In a recent thread, someone mentioned AC/DC Live in Darlington. Amazing sound for an outdoor concert.
Someone also recently was talking about Dianna Krall - Live in Paris. Also sounds great.
That covers hard rock, classic rock, Industrial Rock, acoustic guitar, and jazz vocals & piano so hopefully there is one in there that you will like.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

And you know, although it doesn't measure up to the super high standards of the ones above, I was very pleasantly surprised at how well Jimi Hendrix - Live at Woodstock sounds.
I bought it just to experience watching him play but the SQ was actually very good. Especially considering how old this is.

Thanks a lot for those suggestions. Dave Matthews Band is my second favorite band so I obviously had to check that one out but I've heard that Listener Supported is phenomenal also so I'm going to pick that up. I listen to all of the artists you recommended except Metallica. I love Diana Krall so I will look for that one also, I can't get enough of her voice.

One of my favorites is Jethro Tull: Live at Montreux. Sound is great and PQ is amazing for standard definition.
If you want to try them out before buying them Netflix has lots of "Music DVDs" not DVD-A. I’ve also noticed that the turnaround time on them seems faster than anything else that I rent.

You have not heard wrong. Listener Supported is one of my favorites. It was my first concert DVD purchases so I tend to underestimate it now.
Here is another that should have been forefront in my mind but I missed it. Fleetwood Mac - The Dance. Another one of the earlier concert DVDs often acclaimed for it's exceptional sound.

While I've just purchased the following from eBay- Hell Freezes Over Listener Supported Dave Matthews Band and Tim Reynolds Collective Soul Home (I read a good review about it and I have the CD which is awesome) Diana Krall live in Paris which was recommended on another forum post I will look into Fleetwood Mac-The Dance I currently own: Dave Matthews Band live a Folsom Field a couple Rage Against the Machine videos (my favorite band) Audioslave I've never found any of them to have exceptional audio Folsom Field definitely is the best though. Thanks for the recommendations! Keep them coming

I'm a BIG Collective Soul fan. Highlight of my summer was finally seeing them live this year. It's no surprise that their diverse musical styles easily blended in with the Atlanta Youth Orchestra in this one. Of course much of their music shows hints of classical influence if you listen for it.
I wanted to add that to my list but left it out because it don't feel it stands out as overly "excellent sound recording". It's definitely a good recording but unfortunately we are comparing it to a list of exceptional ones.
In any case, I know you will enjoy it immensely.

The dave matthews and tim reynolds live at radio city hall on DVD has excellent sound quality. The picture is great too since it is shot in HD.
I will be re-buying this in bluray just for the dolby TrueHD... when I get a bluray player

I just joined zip.ca which is the Canadian version of Netflix. Now I just have to come up with another 15 movies to set in queue. Any other suggestions for movies with exceptional sound; music or regular movies? I've added Children of Man and Hitman so far. Even though I've seen them already on my computer I imagine they would have exceptional sound, especially Children of Men.
