Hey guys,

When I redeploy from Iraq I plan on giving my home theater setup a nice boost. I'm based in Germany (army bases are US addresses) so I'm limited on what I can ship over. So, I've decided to buy a pair of m60 since the m80s can't be shipped through the US postal service. Well, I'm going to turn them into M82s (M60 plus M22s). I currently have a Yamaha RX-757 which is a few years old, doesn't offer hdmi, but has 7 x 100 watts. Obviously the Yamaha probably wont fair well with the 4 ohm load.

I can't decide, save some dough and get a couple Outlaw monoblocks or future proof myself and get a Denon 3808? Normally I could afford all this EASILY but bare in mind I'm buying a car straight cash when I get back. I'll be slightly limited by money but I could probably do either.

Thanks!

Ry

wow you can ship the m60's but not the m80's?

I wonder if it is a size or weight constraint. If it is weight then have axiom ship you all of the drivers second... if its size then that sucks!

On topic, I would get a new receiver with HDMI and all the goodies. The 3808 would be my first choice. YOu can always Add an amp later if you really want to.

The 3808 can be purcahsed from 6ave.com for $1098.. not sure about international shipping though.

I would also go the new receiver route.

I would go the route of the new receiver also, eventually you will probably want a receiver that has HDMI and decodes the new audio formats. The Denon would have more than enough power and fit possible future needs.

I'm with everyone on the Denon as I just purchased one myself and now can venture into HD!!

+1 on the Denon, and ++++++ many more on the thanks for serving.

The reason I'd go with the Denon first as I think it is very unlikely you will need an amp immediately to enjoy the heck out of the new setup and get all the pluses associated with a new receiver. Once you have the Denon you can decide whether you really need an amp or whether you want to put the dollars elsewhere. You might be surprised how happy you are running solely from the 3808.

If you have questions on how to get the 3808 for ~$1100 like terzaghi mentioned, please ask. Short summary, do not order online, call them to get the price and the best deal.

Thanks! I suppose that does make the most sense. Especially considering I'll probobly be adding at least a couple hdmi devises in the next year or so. I only wish I could ship those m80s, which btw, cant be shipped due to dimensions. APO In germany is NOT a foreign address. If you ship to APO (whether to germany or Iraq) its essentially the same as shipping to NY. The package is taken via USPS to NY where it is picked up by the military postal system...ofcourse the MPS doesnt charge...so you arnt paying to go through customs or fly overseas. Its great but you cant buy anything too big (TVs is the biggest thing) or heavy (cant weigh over 70 pounds). Anyways, thanks...from what I've heard an M60+M22 combo sounds even better anyways.

If money is no object, could you get the M80s shipped to a depot of some kind, outside of the base, and pick them up yourself sometime?

That aside, don't feel bad about getting M60s, I own two pairs and I always say that I can't imagine anything sounding better than they do. I'm sure the 80s may be a bit better but it is all relative to what you are used to. The 60s will BLOW YOU AWAY. Errr maybe I should not put it quiet that way, considering your profession.... Thank you for what you do though!
