Hi all. I'm currently using Klipsch RF3-II as fronts & I'm considering selling them off & getting some M22ti. I recently added a big screen tv which spreads the speakers farther apart. The woofers are now firing at couches on the 2 side walls & I'm thinking book shelf speakers on stands might be the way to go. Does anyone have experience with Klipsch? Are M22ti's a downgrade? I guess my tastes have changed & I find the Klipsch a bit too bright. I'm using an Outlaw 950 with 150W ATI amps in a room that's approx. 20'x 12" room.

TIA

Jeff

I don't think the M22ti would be a downgrade as long as you also have a subwoofer.

Hi Thade,

"A bit too bright"? Your tastes are improving. Those Klipsch's will tear your ears off. Moving to Axioms will not be a downgrade. You'll love the neutrality of the M22s but you must use them with a subwoofer in a room your size. Indeed, you might think of getting floorstanding M60ti's, depending on your personal taste for maximum playback levels and listening distance.

Thanks for the feedback. I have an excellent sub..PSB. I do enjoy cranking up to extreme volumes at times BUT I'm thinking book shelves on stands so the sound can pass over the arms of couches on both sides of a rectangular room. I may be giving up some volume but the klipsch can sound a little hollow, empty & harsh (not sure how to describe it)at high volumes. I just wonder if I'll be giving up TOO much volume by going to M22's. I feel like I'm totally lacking presence in movies which is the main purpose of the system. Cost is also an issue as I'll be taking a hit on my Klipsch.

How far away do you sit?

From your description of what you're looking for, the M60's sound like a better fit for you. The only hesitation I may have is if you sit too close.

That's not to say the M22's are incredible, but if you like to play really loud, and you're in a good size room, the M60's will be able to accomplish that a bit better. In either case, I'm sure it would be a step up from your Klipsch.

Yeah, I second Alan's suggestion of getting the M60s (or even M80s) instead, assuming that you have a generous listening distance in your room. These floorstanders really shine when you crank up the volume. In comparison, the M22s might start to exhibit some stresses and sonic compression at extreme volumes, although it would be no worse than your Klipsch's.

You can always use a low stage/stand underneath the floorstander to raise the tweeter height a bit if needed.
