Do you use Photoshop in your day job? If you ever have the need, you can justify all these as "brushing up on your skills."

I agree. The background makes a huge difference. Wanna know how to make a brushed metal look? Tip coming soon...

  1. Start with a blank image.
  2. Use the Add Noise filter to add around 80% monochromatic uniform noise.
  3. Now apply a horizontal Motion Blur of about 100 pixels.
  4. Under the Other filter category, choose Offset.
  5. Choose a horizontal offset of around 150 pixels and select Wrap Around.
  6. Now use the rubber stamp tool (with a largish brush) to erase the seam.

Pretty seemple, eh?

OK...your "dream" system inspired me to make my own "dream" wallpaper.

www.funnyfarmcomics.net/dream.jpg

Snell XA Reference Towers
Snell XA 2900 Center
Snell SR30 Surrounds
Rel Studio III Subwoofer
Odyssey Stratos amp

Not sure what I'd use as a processor yet.

I always found the name Snell to be humorous. Makes me think of someone with a cold.

Have any of you ever heard Snell speakers? I still own my Snell type K/II's and love them. I've never heard the XA towers, but I'd imagine a company like Snell's "flagship" speaker would have to be pretty amazing.

The Rel subwoofer is the only thing I've ever heard other than a Hsu what truly amazed me. Granted, it's $3000, but wowwie, wow, wow, wow. Now THAT's some bass. (And it looks nice too.)

I don't think the ultimate processor has been made for me yet. I'd want something like that nifty calibration system the new receivers have. I'd want full HD video switching. Multiple DVI inputs...and it'd have to come in silver.

But you're missing a miniature video screen right on the front!

Mark Levinson!! Although personally, I find that screen on the video processor unattractive.

Same here. It would be distracting. I suppose they need *something* flashy and "mine's better than yours" like that to justify the price....

I agree...I don't quite understand the point of the little mini-screens. The new Rotel RSP-1098 has one. It's flashy, but seems quite pointless. Save the money and put that savings into the guts of the piece I say.

For me or FP users it would be excellent because the menu system can only be viewed if the monitor out on the receiver/processor is connected to the FP or another video device which is a pain.

Hadn't thought of that. I suppose it would come it pretty handy during initial setup and any other time you didn't want to fire up your display device.

I certainly hope you can turn the display off, though.

Anybody heard the new Snell subwoofer? It supposedly has REALLY "fast" bass.

It's called the Mox Snell.

Sorry.

I've made one, but it is no where near the level of spiffnme's. Just took a pic of the tweeter and chopped it off and put it on a black background...

Here
