I just picked up a Yamaha RX-V2700 reciever. I'm really enjoying it. I like to play my music very loud and my recievers get very hot. This one is much larger than all the others I've had before. I've taken a picture of it in my TV stand. Does this look like enough room for ventilation? The top get really hot after playing loud for a while.

As always the more room the better, but if it doesn't shut down in there then there must be enough room.

Check the owners manual. They usually have recommendations on how much space leave on the sides and top to ensure adequate ventilation.

Also, you might be able to reorganize the components so it is on top and has more free space above. Side and bottom breathing room is also important.

Or add a fan at the back to provide additioal ventilation.

Definitely look into adding a fan.

Here is one simple but relatively expensive option. You can also build your own fan pretty easily, but if you prefer simple over DIY, something like this is quiet and functional.

It took me a while to do it but....

My reciever so far has never given me any trouble, but it was getting way too hot in the little cabinet. This is a hot running reciever to begin with and after long and loud playing sessions its always very very hot.

So I built this from parts I had in my workshop bench drawer.
a 120mm PC case fan and an old Netgear adapter from a wireless bridge that broke a long time ago. 5v 2A dc.
The feet I pulled off an old A/B switch box and attached with dabs of hot glue.

The reciever only gets slightly warm now. The flash of the camera makes it very visable but with the normal room lighting you dont even notice it there. Most important it doesnt make hardly a sound. You cant hear it from the couch is what matters.

Do you have it blowing into the receiver or blowing out of it?

Thats a nice simple solution.

I'd like to do the same for my Yammy. She does get pretty toasty.
