I bought the ceiling mount from Axiom for the QS8, but it sounds like (from reading other posts) that it does not leave enough room between the top midrange and the ceiling itself. Anyone found a better bracket or modifies the one from Axiom.
Or does it not really matter.....my ceilings are 9 feet tall. My other surrounds are wall mounted so no issues there.

I was curious about this, too, since I ordered the ceiling brackets for when I move my system into my basement. The recent posts have me wondering.

Agreed, I've seen posts by Alan mentioning 6 inches or more. If that is the case, why would Axiom even sell the bracket?

Well I just got one that just arrived for my right surround. Aren't they designed to be compatible? How curious . . .

Ideally, I'm sure the space helps, but I'm wondering to what degree. They also recommend that the surrounds sit above ear level more than their stands put them, but I use the stands and I'm not dissatisfied with how they sound. Wall-mounting won't be the best option when I'm in the basement, since the room may actually end up being wider than it is deep, depending on what the final layout is. That's why I figured I'd go with ceiling brackets, for flexibility, and it would put them in the suggested range for height. However, if it compromises the sound at all, I may want to work something else out.

It may all fall under the heading of the purportedly robust forgiveness of the QS8s with regard to placement, but still sounds like it might be something to look into.

If I remember right, the ceiling brackets allow you to tilt the speakers so that they're not completely parallel to the ceiling (which provides a little more room for reflection).

I noticed the tilting function. Do you think tilting would be recommended?

Yes, I have my FMB tilted to allow for more room above the QS8s, it does a make a bit of a difference.

I also have mine tilted a bit. See http://www.axiomaudio.com/images/kellerht.jpg It seems to work fine.

I also think with the ability to tilt the Qs8's downward, you would give the top drivers enough breathing room. Nice pics Gene..

Hi all,
Yes, do tilt downwards if you are using the Axiom ceiling-mount brackets for the QS8s. The 6-inch breathing-room suggestion for the QS8 top-firing woofer is just a guestimate on my part for those who are wall-mounting the QS8s, as in "Don't put them too close to the ceiling. . ."
As to the QS8 stand design, the height chosen is a trade-off between stability (any taller and they'd be very tippy) and performance. They do sound fine at the QS8 stand height, as CV attests. I've found that if you have the choice, wall-mounting the QS8s up higher tends to make the surround field a little more realistic, mostly for airplane/helicopter fly-over effects from movie soundtracks. You hear those effects above you more.

Appreciate all the feedback. Will certainly try tilting the speaker.

If you have the choice it seems that the wall mount is preferred in order to get the speaker away from the ceiling more than the ceiling mount will provide? My wire is presently sticking out of the wall just below the ceiling. I can lower it a bit and lower the speakers (when I get them) down a bit.
