I have Axiom M22s, M3s, M2s and M60s. Love em all!! I'm getting ready to buy another set of M22s but was also looking at the Emotiva ERMs. I'm thinking they will both sound similar but I haven't heard the ERMs. I have some Emo equipment that I like and was wondering if anyone here had heard the ERMs. How do they compare to the 22s. There seems to be an underground (and not so underground sometimes) battle, war, whatever between Axiom and Emotiva. Personally I have enjoyed both for different setups. Anyway, has anyone heard both the M22s and ERMs?

David,
What are your reasons for saying that?

From what I remember, they have gotten mixed reviews. Its one of those things though, if you really want to know, you gotta try them yourself.

Ditto. Precisely the reason I switched from being a loyal (almost 10 years) Paradigm owner to Axiom.

read the audioholics.com review of the emotiva surrounds.. it compares them to the qs8's and states that the emo's perform at a whole other level

I love my Axioms too. That's why I've bought 5 sets. I was just curious about the Emos since I also like their amps and processors so much. I'm getting ready to buy another set of M22s but was wondering about the Emo ERMs. I guess it was kinda lame for me to even ask -- especially here..... :-)

No, I think we handle discussions of other speakers pretty well here. We love our Axioms, but we also love the audio hobby.

I like that we can discuss other speakers because there is a ton out there and we all have different tastes.

I agree. That was just a joke. Hey, I'm bias about Axioms and personally have no desire to buy anything else. I'm also bias towards Emotiva amps and processors. The even deeper driving force for me though is value. If I find a product that offers more value (price, service, quality) then I want to look at it. So anyway, my original question was if anyone had heard the ERMs and could compare them to the 22s.

I read that too, but the statement seems a little over the top since it is not really quantified.

In general, when I see 'blows them out of the water' I start to question. Differences in speaker are often much more subtle unless you are doing an apples to caviar comparison.

The M80's blow my fromer micro stereo speakers out of the water, but its kinda silly to compare the two in the first place.

Yeah, I like other speakers coming up in discussion. I love having my main system be all-Axiom, but I'm always curious what else is out there. I still want to try another brand for a 2.1 channel setup.

Yeah, but you're the traitor who owns like 3 different brands. I'm not even sure you own any Axioms any more.

I know, I'm a speaker hoarder. Just to rub it in I have 6 different speaker brands. Neener neener. And I do have Axioms!! Ha ha! M3s (in use downstairs) and QS8s for my HT set-up.

It depends the line from Paradigm. Axioms blow the Monitor series away. The Studio line is more expensive than the comparable Axiom models, too.

It was upgrade time for me. I went through two versions of Monitor 9's through those years, along with a complete 5.1 system. Yes, Paradigm are phenomenal sounding speakers (I still have my Monitor 9 V2's which are hooked up to my computer via my Denon 3801), but when it was time to upgrade, I was going to wheel (can't step \:D ) up to Studio 100s but I preferred the sound of the M80s.

Yes indeed they do, but I have always found Monitor 9's to be brilliant sounding speakers for - $1000. It would be nice to do a comparison for fun but I'm still looking for a local Axiomite to help me out.

Fred, have you seen any professional reviews of them other than the Audioholics one. I was initially intregued by it but after they came out I wasn’t seeing any other pro reviews just links to and reposts of the Audioholics one.

Of the few user reviews I saw one said that they weren’t anything special and a couple others raved about the surrounds but really just sounded like rehashes of what Audioholics said and nothing to indicate that they really put them through their paces.

I didn’t want to wait anymore and eventually just added a couple M22s to my last Axiom order for the hell of it and am very happy I did.

I find it interesting that the ERM/D's are 4 ohm speakers which would effectively eliminate a great many people from buying them.

Lets see here. As of right now I have Hsu speakers, B&W, American Acoustics, Cerwin Vega, and Axioms. I have owned Pioneer HPM 1500s, EPI 100s, Bose 901s, Def Tech pro 40,Design Acoustics and a few I can't recall at this time. I really do like my M80s but in time I will be replacing them with a big ol set of Maggies.

HMMM biased.

Good point Dean. It was reviews on the audioholics forum I was referring to so there is a greater possibility of bias. If I have time today I am going to search back through audioholics to see if I can dig up the review I remember (another dangerous thing, me relying on my not so perfect memory).

Arctikdeth. You need to take your own advice and tone it down a little.
Bias: inclination for or against one thing or person.

Of course we are biased towards Axiom. If we wern't we would not have bought their speakers.

To make such a statement based on ones choice of speakers is outragously foolish. You have no clue what in life any one of us has experienced. There is just a tad more to life than the speakers one chooses. :giansizerollyeyes:

What makes you say we are biased? Yes we like Axiom's but many of us have owned and still own or listen to other speakers. So far as only discussing Axiom speakers in here, this IS Axiom's forum, what do you expect, head over to AVSForum or some other general av forum if you want to read about other speakers.

If you go back to the double initial post, it seemed that he wanted some emotiva gear to go with his m80's.......hmmmmm.

but you guys just go on and ONLY talk and by axiom speaks. youll neveer experience life as it was meant to be full of choices deciisions

Waited for a while to post on any of Arctikdeth's threads (kind of knowing something like this would be posted).

Arctikdeth, buy what you want. Don't belittle people on this board for what they believe either. If you can afford 21+ year old scotch, you can certainly afford any speaker you want.

80% of your posts are so riddled with typos and grammatical errors that it is hard for someone to fully understand what you are truly trying to say. You bring nothing to the table to discuss, and only use web-ebonics and belittling to get your point across.

If you don't like Axiom, I can understand it, and I hope you can find a speaker that makes you happy. I for one am tired of reading the garbage you post.

JMHO.

Arctikdeth, regarding your comment about being biased, I believe it's time to pause and reflect i.e. your posts are ladened with biases whether it be your favorite Scotch etc., but that's okay, what's not is condescension, which the "regular" Axiom community doesn't tolerate because we don't dish it out unless antagonized.

Nobody lives there life without biases; an opinion is a bias, which everyone has virtually day in and day out.

Cheers and all the best

I don't know about that. If I readjusted my priorities and became an alcoholic with expensive taste, I could certainly afford 21+ year old scotch and have no money left over for anything else. ;\)

Sorry that I am late to this party. I don't think that you have to apologize for asking Axiom owners about hearing other brands of speakers. I've got an Axiom sub and surrounds mixed with mains from a different manufacturer. I am probably not finished buying amps and speakers. It is fun to try new things and while I would like to hear new speakers before purchasing them, that is not always possible. I say that you should buy the Emotiva speakers and return them if they don't satisfy you. You know what the M22s sound like and you can always purchase them after trying the Emos.

Both Axiom and Emotiva are great companies as I have dealt with both purchasing my LPA1 and M60's,VP150 and they sound great together.I also have run the Paradigm monitor series for a while and was looking for an upgrade but the studio's were big bucks and the M60's were a noticeable improvement so I went with them.

P.S-We also have to put with 'arcticdeth' over at the 'Emo' forum.

At the Emotiva forum does he tell you in horribly formatted and illegible sentences that he has Emotivas, then later say that he doesn't and they suck?

Hi Nels. I went with M80s after listening to the studio line and being told that the axiom line was of similar quality and sound. I loved the sound of the studio line, but like you, could not afford them.

Its nice to hear that arcticdeth is spreading the 'love'. ;\)
