I have an Axiom EP500 v2 subwoofer that will not power up. When you turn it on there is not green led light. I did the obvious changing outlets and looking at the fuses. I visually inspected all six fuses and they do not appear to be burned. The ceramic fuse I took down to the local Radio Shack and they tested the fuse and they said that fuse was good. Any suggestions as to what I should do next. Thanks.

It worked great, it would vibrate the room. It is plug into a surge protector; the same surge protector my Denon A/V receiver is plugged into. All the other components work fine. Miss my sub woofer when watching those Blu Ray movies.

Turn off the switch on the surge protector, wait 10-20 seconds, turn it back on, try powering up your sub.

Have you tried plugging it into a regular outlet and bypass the surge protector, none of my subs are in surge protectors.

Check to see if the power cord is fully inserted in the outlet on the back of sub as well.

Regarding the fuses, the AC switch has the two fuses located in the pull-out box below the switch. Where did you find the other four fuses? I do not have the four vertically oriented fuses located between the AC switch and the trim knob, as shown on the Axiom picture, in either of my EP500s.

There is two small fuses in the pull out box under the switch. To the left of the switch is four fuses. The bottom fuse is the ceramic fuse and the three above the ceramic fuses are smaller fuses. I had the ceramic fuse tested and it was OK. I looked at the other fuses and did not see any burned spots on the glass fuse capsule. I may replace them anyway and see if it corrects the problem. If it is not the fuses what else could it be?

Stoner,

Check the "TRIM" control and make sure that it is NOT set to "Load" or "Remote". Set "FLAT".

Don't use a surge protector with the EP500. Plug the subwoofer into a wall AC outlet. First unplug it, wait a few minutes, then plug it into the AC outlet and try again.

Visual inspection of the fuses is not adequate. You need to have the Radio Shack guy check each fuse with a volt/ohmmeter.

Regards,

Alan

Hi John,

Your EP500s are the latest versions, which have only the two fuses in the pull-out module below the AC switch. Older EP500s also have four additional fuses in holders.

The diagrams on our web site for the new EP500 Owner's Manual need to be updated to show the new back plate.

Regards,
Alan

Stoner,

I just chatted with Chris, who builds our EP500 amplifiers and repairs them. He said it's very rare for the ceramic fuse to blow.

Call our Audio Experts on the toll-free line and we'll have new fuses sent out to you. Throw out the old ones and replace them, then try the EP500 again, after you've checked the Trim switch, which should be at Flat.

Regards,
Alan

Is there a specific reason why a surge protector shouldn't be used with the EP500 Alan? I don't really want mine to go up in smoke if I get a power surge.

Thanks
Cam

I beleive the reason, is in theory, the surge protector could be limiting the power to the amp.

Stoner,

You sure you're vision isn't impaired from a "foggy room" or glossy eyes thence not being able to see the power light illuminated on the back of the 500??

Thanks, Alan.
On a side note, past weekend, one of my EP500s developed some popping sounds (as if someone was randomly tapping the driver cone in singlets or doublets). Popping was present irrespective of whether the LFE line was connected. The popping then went away but the status light in the back turned yellow, and the sub became non-functional. I e-mailed Axiom on Sunday evening, and Brent replied back that night ! (Amazing customer service). After trying a few things that he suggested, there was no change. He will be sending a new amplifier today. Needless to say, I am grateful for the outstanding technical support and the exemplary customer service from Axiom.

Hi Cam,

Jay is correct. We'd prefer that customers not use any intervening devices between the subwoofer and the AC outlet, especially if there are any problems showing up. This is also true of Axiom's A1400-8 power amplifier.

Look, it isn't a big deal if your EP500 is working fine while it's plugged into your surge protector. However, whenever we have problems, I usually advise a customer to directly connect the subwoofer or amplifier to the AC wall outlet, to rule out problems in the surge protector.

Thanks Alan,

Maybe they use of quite a long extension cord to my surge protector is limiting my bass output? I will try unplugging it and see if there is a difference.

I would guess that the difference will be a severe lack of bass.

I would like to thank you all for the suggestions. I will replace all the fuses when I get home and try all the other suggestions and hopefully I will be back up and running. I have watched this forum for some time now and had not posted prior to this post. Again thanks for all the responses and I will posts again tonight after I have tried all the suggestions.

My sub woofer is woofing again. I change out the fuses in the small box below the on/off switch and I get the green LED light. Have not tried it with a DVD yet. I do have power and would like to thank all that gave suggestions. Great forum. Stoner

On a related note, it looks like my fuses recently blew on my ep350. \:\(

It's a bit odd, since when switched on, the green light will turn on, everything will work for about 5s, then the green light turns red...different from the time I had a fuse blow on my other ep350 (and just didn't turn on, as you would expect).

Problem is: no store near me appears to have replacements in stock!
Anyone have a recommendation for an online place I can buy the correct fuses?

The Source

Has a variety. Quick though, before they go completely out of business.
Also would help if you told us the exact type of fuse.

I would think Axiom would be an excellent source to get the correct fuses from, since you are looking at shipping them anyway.

I've been searching the Axiom site, and I'm not seeing where to buy them anywhere. I'd obviously love to grab them from Axiom first, but if not, the previously mentioned site would work as well...

I wonder if it would be beneficial for Axiom to list some of the more common parts on their Accessories area, with the cables and stands etc., like the amp fuses, a new 5.25 driver or tweeter etc., might have some of the DIY people ordering up these items as the Axiom drivers are very tough and would work very well for many DIY projects.

People would want to know the driver specs for DIY projects, and I would think that information is proprietary.

Why would that info be proprietary? I know Axiom makes them in house and also supplies other companies as OEM with drivers already.

And then, if they sold drivers, there would be startup guys in their garage selling rip-off AXOIM M80S!!!!11!! CHEK OUT MY SELLER RATTING!!!11! That could become a nightmare for Axiom.

There could be Axiom rip offs already, as Parts Express sells Tweeters and drivers that look identical or awfully close to Axiom's from the pics on the website.
