Well, its finally finished. My little theater room. Axiom thru and thru. Epic 80/600, finished off with an A-1400-8. I even bought their 12 gauge wire and banana plugs. class A company. Well i'm a family man so all i can say is pre ejeculatory. that's it. I can bearly go to work. all i can think of is the next blu-ray movie in 7.1 (only Hellboy 2 so far.)or when will i be able to sneek a DVD-A player that the wife won't notice. any way here are some pics.

PS the Dark Knight is only in 5.1...you would have thought they would go 7.1...darn...

I would, but the thing is that we watch the TV about 4-5 feet away depending where we lay down on the couch. we are also very close to the M80's. I believe that if we were at least 10 feet back or more the differance would matter, but as it stands it sounds just purfect. the bass is the issue with delay. but i also have a wife and if i put the woofer where it really belonged...well lets just say its a compremise with Mrs. Family Guy.

Delayed bass is the issue? what distance do you have set up for the sub woofer? It should be at least double what it actually is to allow time for the DSP to do its thing before output happens.

I don't understand the doubling. I thought the advice before was a set amount of distance to add on top of what it actually is. Doubling the distance seems kind of arbitrary. I'd think the DSP's processing would take a set amount of time? I'm just curious where the doubling idea came from.

It is just a good place to start and as most people have their subs relatively close the doubling seems to work as a rule of thumb. I am sure if someone was to figure out exactly how long the DSP takes to convert the signal, we could then figure out exactly how far away the sub should be for each user, but it is just easier to allow more distance than there actually is, and as I said, doubling the distance seems to work well in most instances.

I called Axiom about this not long ago. They recommended entering the exact distance between the listening position and the sub, that no distance needs to be added to account for the DSP.

And yet so many people complain of a delayed bass with DSP subs, trial and error seems like the best method. If it doesn't sound right with correct distances, then start lengthening it till it does.

I agree with Jay. the sub if fixed to the exact distance from the "sweet spot" or listening position, and still there is a delay. I found the spot where there is no delay set with the right distance from the "sweet spot", but then Mrs. Family Man wouldn't allow me the sweet spot for quite some time.. if you guys get my drift. You gain one sweet spot and lose the other...Life is full of compremises.

Everything I've read about any DSP processing, requires the user to account for this by adding 2-3ft to the actual measurement. The nature of DSP results in a delay that should be accounted for in your receiver settings.

That's interesting, I thought in the Audyssey tips & tricks I last read that Audyssey would account for the delay in the sub automatically through the results measured in the setup routine. However, there's a decent chance that my memory is making that up to confuse me.
