Hi, well this is my first time buying a home theater system. I was considering buy either
M60ti or M80ti. Which one would be the best receiver for M60ti and M80ti? And I would decide from there which one would suit me the best. Thanks!!

Fataechak, welcome to the board. That is an extremely hard question to answer. First of all, what are you planning on. Just HT, and what size is the room. Also, do you plan on using separate components, IE processer, and amp, or just a receiver all in one package. Look into the Yamaha, Denon, NAD, Marantz, B&K, and my favorite Rotel. I personally suggest staying away from Onkyo, Sony and Pioneer unless you get their flagship models. I have had Onkyo and Sony and both seemed under powered to me. I have read about others not liking Pioneer.

Both the M60's, and M80's are great speakers, depending on your room size and budget will determine that. The M80's are an easy 4Ohm load and most receivers will do OK with them.

Ah, yes also check out Harmon Kardon, they make some great products as well. Here's a link to check out as well.

There'd be very little difference between the M60 and M80 as far as amp requirements, so don't let that affect your choice of speakers. In Yamahas at that price or a little less I'd suggest that you consider the new 2400 instead, primarily because it has the YPAO automatic room and speaker equalization. Also note that the latest version is now being shipped with the DPLIIx upgrade.

I would think the M80's would be better suited for a room that size.

don't worry about the speaker/amp combination. Axioms are great speakers. They will sound great with almost any amp out there. JohnK's recommendation of the Yamaha 2400 is right on. That is the receiver I would aim for if my Onkyo died today.

No, the 3300 is part of the old 1300-2300-3300 series. The new 1400 and 2400 have significant improvements, most notably the YPAO automatic room and speaker equalization. The 3300 hasn't been upgraded and it's unclear whether there will be a 3400 or whatever. The Denon 3803 is a fine receiver, but it doesn't have the automatic equalization feature, which in my view is a significant advantage of the Yamaha.

be wary of yamahas room equalizer microphone. the microphone isnt very long, and getting it to the right place(when EQing rear speakers) is someimtes not possible.

Hawk, the microphone is at the listening position, not at the speakers.

Hi,

The EQ mic that I got with my RXV1400 has a cord that is approx. 18-20 feet long.

One other difference between the Yamaha 3300 and the new 1400/2400 is 'THX Select' label on the newer models. That impresses some folks. And many others (me included) just dont care about it.

Another new feature on 2400 is the up-conversion of composite and S-Video sources to Component.

And the 2400 wont break your back at 34 lbs. The 3300 weighs 48 lbs.

Here are 2 Comparison charts...
RXV2400 and other new models specification sheet

RXV3300 and the previous generation spec. chart

Cheers / Mahesh

For a receiver with automatic room and speaker equalization, which in my view is a major advantage, the 2400 is a good buy. Don't worry about "better". I assume that you've read the Roger Russell article which has been frequently cited, so any lamp cord of adequate gauge for the length of run involved will go great and can't be improved on.

stf2 from HSU. Depends on your sub budget though. Could go with a better or worse model based on the $ you have available.
