Just wondering what you guys(or girls) thought is the best receiver for listening to music. I have heard lots of things about Rotel-RX1050 and NAD C740, but I was just curious what the real opinions are.

Truthfully, our opinions don't matter a whole lot. There is no single receiver that is the best. Some people swear by Rotel. Others swear by Pioneer Elite. Still others love their Yamahas. Harmon/Kardon has its fans, as well.
The best way to choose a receiver is to first figure out the features that are most important to you. Then go audition the receivers that meet your needs.

pmbuko hit the nail on the head, it's just a matter of what sounds good to you. I have the Rotel RSP-1066 for HT and love it, but I have listened to some Krell, NAD and many other systems that made me want them to. I think today, most of them are very close. The amps and speakers make a huge difference as well.

instead of a receiver i would look into rotel and nad's integraded amps, like the rotel RA 01 and RA1060 or the nad C3200bee and C352. you can add a tuner to them later down the line if you want. as for the NAD740 and the rotel rx1050 they really arn't even at the same level the rotel being 100 watts per channel and the nad 35 watts per channel. But you have to figure out what your needs are in a system and then and get what sounds best to you.

I agree. If you're looking for the best 2ch sound, this is the way to go.
