I thought it was pretty cool that the Ohio State and USC game last week was recorded in 3D. I guess they had a section on campus where a bunch of students/ tailgaters who couldn't get into the sold out stadium could go and watch it in 3D

Nah. I wonder what prices they'll come out at, though, and how much they'll cost to produce versus LCD, plasma, and DLP. It would be nice if it was actually somehow a cheaper technology, wouldn't it?

Wow, 1080 hz!!!! That is impressive!!! Sucks that you have to wear glasses everytime you watch tv though. Wonder when they'll ever come out with the technology to display a 3D picture that you don't need to wear glasses to see... now THAT is what I can't wait for!

Micah, There is technology to deliver 3D images without having to wear glasses using a lenticular screen, but there are compromises with that approach as well. One of the demos I saw worked quite well so long as you sat directly in front of the screen in the sweet spot. As you moved off to one side or the other, the 3D effect mostly disappeared. Here is a link to a very complex technique developed by Mitsubishi that eliminates that problem but the complexity and cost would rule it out for consumer development. http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/04/mitsubishi-shows-off-3d-tv-technology-no-glasses-needed/Regards, Alan

Does anyone know why they settled on that number? I see it's both a multiple of 24 and 60, but I'm wondering if there's any other significance.

Doesn't really make any sense to me why they'd pick that number. It isn't even a multiple of 25/50 so our European friends will have trouble with it. 600 Hz would be perfect, multiple of 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60.
It isn't like it makes the scanning time an integer amount, because it's scanning 1080 lines 1080 times a second, for 1,166,400 lines/second. Dunno.
