Hey guys,
I've been interested in axiom speakers for a while, but I've been waiting to purchase until I finish my home theater. I have a limited budget (~$1200) but unlimited desires, so help me with my speaker selection. I've already got a Hsu STF-2 sub, so I'm just looking for the rest of a 5.1 system. Eventually I'll want to upgrade to 7.1, but this'll do for now. I was originally interested in floorstanding speakers (the M50Ti) but I think I might have to downgrade to afford everything I want. I was also thinking of the QS4's and the VP-100, but from what I've read, the QS8's and the VP-150 are the way to go. So now I'm thinking of the M22Ti's, 1 pair of QS8's, and the VP-150. This would at least give me matching 5.25" woofers all the way around. I'll be using this system 90% of the time for home theater applications. Now the front speakers (M22Ti's) will be sitting on an 8 to 10" stage, do you think this is high enough, or would you recommend stands? I'm planning on mounting the surrounds on the walls. The room itself is approximately 22' by 11'. Any recommendations would be helpful....

Thanks

the stands axiom offers are 16" inches tall, so if you can somehow elevate the speaker 6 inches more that seems like it might work.

I idea of stands is to get the tweeter to fire as close to ear level as possible. So how high or low you need them really depends on your seating position.

It's also nice to have the two mains and center at approx the same level. This is usually tough, as most people have their centers on top of a tv, but it is the goal.

Finally...I've said this before and I'll say it again. If your room can accomodate towers, and that is what you truly want. Get them. Save up for the other pieces. Don't skimp because you have $1200 now. Spend the $1200 budget you have now on the best quality you can get. That may mean you'll have to save up and get your surrounds or center a bit later, but you won't end up wondering "what if?" down the road. Trust me, it's the right thing to do. (wow...I just fealt like Wilford Brimley just then.)

its up to you whether you want to save up for an m60, but if you want to get everything now, the qs8, vp 150 and m22s will be a good way to go.
I just emailed axiom myself about placing the speakers and brent tombari said the tweeter is about 17" tall. He said make the stands as tall as they need to be in order to reach ear level, so in my case i am going with 24" inch stands(i am making these myself)

a 17" tall tweeter? That's the biggest tweeter I ever heard of.

I just found one that's 38". Neener neener. And it didn't take much looking. :-)
