Not "last night" but had a good summer concert wise. Lots of local bands that I won't list as you may never of heard of them plus these more prominent names. A good variety if nothing else.
In order of appearance...

The Trews
The Tragically Hip
Matt Anderson
Laila Biali Jazz Trio

Lucas Porter (the youngest pianists ever to complete the requirements for the Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto at age 14)

Seether
Metallica
Arcade Fire
U2

That's because you're not Canadian.

Awesome, Murph! Were most of those on/near PEI?

Don't feel bad, I'm only 28 and only recognized U2, Metallica, and Seether.

Murph,
I have seen Laila Biali as she opened for Chris Botti and sang a few songs with his band. I still have a signed cd from her.

Very cool.

Tom, the first list were on PEI. Metallica with Seether (and others) were in Halifax and U2 with Arcade Fire (and others) were Moncton. Both outdoor concerts. Rained a bit both days but absolutely no one cared.

If you haven't heard of the other's don't fret. "The Hip" actually do pretty well in the US and around the world so I'm a bit surprised about that one, but the rest are a bit more "Canadian" or just a bit newer.

That being said, if you like live rock with energy, you are missing out with "The Trews." While they are best known for their foot stompin, rock tunes, I'll link this one because it just might tug at your heart strings like it did mine.
Highway of Heros

Since many of you won't know, the term "Highway of Heroes" refers to a stretch of Highway 401 running from CFB Trenton into Toronto where the remains of almost every slain Canadian solder makes it's way down when they are flown back to Canada. The highway often becomes lines with both veterans and civilians paying their respects to the fallen.

.
And since I know there are a lot of blues fans on this forum, check out http://www.stubbyfingers.ca/music. The self assigned nickname in his link is a complete oxymoron to his great guitar skills and as reviewer once said humerously, "and a voice that has no business coming out of a white guy."

To acknowledge my 40th anniversary as the de facto designated driver, I drove 7 alcoholic friends to see Imleda May Thursday night.

I thought we were getting there early to stake out a good spot close to the stage. We were actually getting there early so they could stake out a good spot close to the bar. They were already f'fried before we left the pre-concert cocktail pahhhty, so they were concerned about their ambulatory skills, apparently.

I was dead center (alone), < 10' from the stage (her).

She was everything you hear on record, but here! now! A great front and MC; an amazing vocalist. She was beautiful in the flesh. Amazing skin and, in general, hot. The audience was sooo into them.
Couples were jive dancin' in all the room's corners.

The place was packed like a Tokyo subway car, though it did not smell Japanese. There were more brogues in one place than I'd ever encountered, aside from a Southie bar @ 3:30 in the afternoon.
And everybody came straight from their summer roofing jobs. Where's my nosegay when I need it?

The crowd was very dinosaur-friendly. Everyone under 30 was female and dressed in 1940's "Black Dahlia" regalia. The bulk of the crowd was over 40 w/ quite a # of peeps > 60! Cool!

I was completely killed by the drummer, bassist and trumpet/2nd guitar player. All over 50, they had that journeyman effortlessness to their playing that is always so impressive. But they were having a good time and they were boppin' and smilin' and making all sorts of happy jazz faces. Trumpet and bass players did all backing vocals with that kind of Will Lee-aplomb.

Not bad for $30. Well, free for me--- for being willing to risk my new van becoming a vomit comet.

The 22 year old and the 30 year old arrived to the show buzzed, but coherent, and left the same way. The 5 others are all over 50. Upon departure, the power side doors to the new van were "great." Boarding for the trip home, they became "magical" and were the cause of great excitement and parking meter bruises.

Male, female, straight, gay, no matter. They all tried to sloppy kiss me when I let them out at their front doors. Ew!

I'm not going anywhere NEAR her shows if they are going to make me want to stick my tongue down your throat.

I look forward to learning more about her and her music. Unfortunately, the Seattle stop on her tour was 6 weeks ago. Pity.

I admit I had to go to the web page to check her out. I like it. Her voice reminds me a bit of Gwen Steffani with a hint of Pink but much more refined in a good way. Music is catchy too. I will be seeking a CD.

Kudos for taking the Boys out too. Sounds like a fun night.
