...so guess what I'll be doing this evening! So exciting!

But one question before I cut holes in my walls. If I connect these babies up and place them on stands, will that give me a good impression on how they sound? I obviously don't want to cut holes in my wall first and then find I want to switch them out for another Axiom option.

What do you think? Will the wall make a huge difference? Based on what everyone here has said, I know I am going to love them!

You should get a fair idea on how they will sound when installed.

The wall doesn't make any difference as they are completely sealed.

Yeah, like Rick said, you should get a general idea how they sound.

You'll likely get more bass when they're installed, to to the boundary effect of the wall itself. So, on stands, they'll likely sound a bit "thin". But yeah, it'll get you most of the way there!

I had a revelation just now. I have some spare drywall. I am going to make a cut out in a couple of pieces and mount the drywall on a couple of timber stands as a test bed.

....it might just work!

It is actually a good idea to try this in various locations, before you start cutting permanent holes in the walls. Contrary to what Mr Potato said, there will be a sound/performance difference, sealed or not, between placing a speaker within a wall, on a wall, or away from a wall a bit. Once the speakers are within the wall you will get better reinforcement and boundary effects that will aid in the bass frequencies. As Mark pointed out the speakers might sound a little thin for testing, but that is ok. In my testing of the new onwall m22's, before they were released, I experienced a very noticeable difference "on the wall" versus only 6" away from the wall. The inwall speakers should sound better once permanately mounted.

If you're wondering what they're going to sound like then what I suggest you do is send them over to my house pronto, I'll have a listen and tell you exactly how good they sound!

It's not like he is using the actual in wall speaker outside of the wall, it's a sealed speaker. Of course it may sound slightly different than if it is installed in a wall with the way sound will react off the wall, I should have worded that differently. If you really want to get into it you could say the speakers are not going to sound the same in spare drywall and in a different room, than they will finally installed in a normal wall with drywall/studs in your destined room for them.

I've got W22's and a W150 sitting in their boxes in my living room right now as well! Putting my new audio cabinet together tonight, installing the speakers and wall mounting the new TV on Saturday! It's so exciting to have new Axioms in the house again!

Over the years I've owned almost every speaker they've made outside the M80's!

First was the VP150, then M22's. Then I just had to have those nifty QS8's. Caught the 7.1 bug, and added a pair of M2's as rears. Didn't notice any earth shattering difference with 7.1 and moved the M2's on to my computer. Upgraditis set in, and I started demoing speakers to replace the M22's. Was just about to purchase a pair of Energy Veritas 2.2's, when I had a chance to demo a pair of M60's in my home. Wow...they sounded AMAZING. Bought 'em. Rounding out my home theater was of course the joyous EP500. When we purchased the new home last year, we gained a deck and backyard, so OF COURSE I had to purchase the outdoor Algonquin M3's!

I loved my Axioms so much, I wanted to spread the joy and so found some discontinued MZeros, VPZero, and QS2's and set Roger up with some surround sound gaming on his PC. I've bought a pair of M3's for both my Mom and Dad. They LOVE 'em.

It's been a long while now since I've bought any Axiom products! So when the time came to switch to an on-wall TV, I had the perfect opportunity to try out Axioms "new" on/in wall speakers!

Well, that was...interesting. She brought a "friend", a guy, he might be gay, but they've definitely known each other for a long time. I guess because it was the first time we were meeting in person (met her on the Internet), so I don't blame her. But it was awkward, they kept making inside jokes.

Sushi was very good.

All three of us came back to my place and watched Toy Story 2 (she mentioned she is a huge Pixar fan). She said my home setup is better than one of the local theaters.

Sounds like a decent enough time, even with the curveball. Can't go wrong with Toy Story 2. So do you think you'll get together again?

I would definitely have no objection, but not sure what she thought of me. I'll see if she sends me a message on Facebook, if she doesn't by tomorrow morning I'll send something.

Meeting new people is hard.

I told her I've never seen Finding Nemo, but that might have been a lame move, because it not out on BD yet. She did see that I own Toy Story, Wall-E, Up, and Ratatouille, told her I'd planing to buy Bug's Life, Cars (she doesn't really like Cars though), and Monsters, Inc.

Don't I know it. I like chatting with people online well enough, but I find it hard to connect in any lasting manner in person. At least for people I'm meeting strictly for friendship. I've made really good friends at work. It really helps to have that common (required) activity to encourage the interaction.

This girl is into anything techy (goes through mobile phones like crazy), video games (actually has more than I), anime (again, more than I), comic books (I hardly read any), and film (I win here) in general.

She said she wanted to buy a slushy machine, but they are really expensive. I thought for a moment, and wondered out loud, what would happen if you put a sweet, water-based drink into an ice cream maker. Because a slushy machine is really just a freezer with a stirring paddle to keep large ice crystals from forming. I figure an ice cream maker could make one-off batches of slushies. I almost didn't speak the words, just kept the thought to myself, but once I said it, she thought it was a really neat idea.

I was going to get a Slush Puppie machine at one point, but I never got around to it. I was actually just thinking about it yesterday. It's my destiny.

The girl and I have been exchanging messages all day. She does want to see me again. Though, she didn't say if she'd be bring the guy or not. He did send me a friend request.

I'm pretty sure that'd get her attention in the wrong way. She comes across very shy. She's 26, but I believe she's only had one boyfriend.

I've got her beat. I'm 32 and have never had a boyfriend.

Yeah, the chick with the girlfriend, I finally gave up on her, that's why I asked this one out. After spending every-other day for a year with the bi-girl, and having her tell me 3 times that we won't be anything but friends, I figured it probably wasn't going to go any further than friendship.

I see, so now you're playing the 'hard to get' card on her I see... good move!

Chris - it would not hurt to friend her friend unless there was something that you really did not like about him. If you piss him off, your chances with her may suffer.

I guess I am officially an old fart timer. I don't know how many times, I have told my kids, get off the text, facebook, IM, whatever and make a "phone" call. My first date with my wife was an "honest to god blind date". The lady that worked for me was "setting me up" with her cousin. She gave me the phone number a week before the date - I called and we ended up talking for 2 hours. There is something to be said for the sound of a human voice.

Now that I have that off my chest, this does sound promising and...it I agree, it might be a good idea to friend the friend. After all, she did bring him along as a safety valve - so she apparently trusts him.

Well, I did send him a message basically saying, I'm really picky about who I friend on FB, and that I'm leaving him unconfirmed for now, but not rejected. He replied back, "That's alright." But yeah, you two have a good point, I hope I didn't sour him to me too much. Though I didn't like him much, but that may be because he kept taking her attention from me in conversation.

As for the girl, we're still exchanging messages. I entertained her most of yesterday while she was at work. Already have received two from her today, and about to write my second reply. Trying to get her to come up with a day where we can go out again, but she works a later shift than I, so it may not be until the weekend.

That's because you grew up with the telephone being a normal way to communicate with people. When the telephone first came out, and kids started calling eachother, their parents told them, "get off of the phone and go talk to him/her face to face... there's something to be said for looking a person in the eye when you talk to them".

For kids growing up now, the internet and cell phones are a normal way of communicating with other people. And for shy people such as this girl Chris is courting, it's actually a very good way of being able to open up to people. Instead of getting on a phone or talking face to face, not knowing what to say, and running away embarrased... they can take their time, figure out what they want to say, and even edit what they're going to say before they send it off. It gives shy people a lot more confidence when it comes to having contact with other people.

Now the flip side to that coin is.... I was painfully shy when I was a kid. I can remember the first few 'phone calls' to females I made, I was sweating profusely, I had a list of things to say all written down in front of me to talk about, and I rehearsed the whole conversation (at least the way I had figured it would go down) I was about to have many times before I actually called the girls in question. But once they got on the line, everything usually went to shit, and I wound up bumbling around my words like a retard and getting off of the phone as fast as I could! But since that was the only form of communicating back then, I simply HAD to get better at talking to girls, or I was never going to get LAID!!! LMAO

So I know a lot of people who've said that texting on your cell phone or sending instant messages over the internet does nothing for a person in the way of getting them prepared to actually talk to another human being, and that those forms of technology actually hurt communication skills because they never learn how to communicate verbally. But I suppose our grandparents probably said the exact same thing about telephones, that talking to someone you can't see is one thing, but learning how to look another man/woman in the eye and tell them something takes a completely different skill!

And I'd say both camps are right in a way. It seems to me that the art of looking a person in the eye while talking to them has really diminished over the years. Now-a-days it almost feels like a violation of personal space when someone comes and looks you in the eye when they talk to you, because not very many people do that anymore. I hope that doesn't become true of people actually talking to eachother with their mouth as well!

Oh well, they'll figure it out. One day todays kids will be the parents, and they'll be telling their kids to stop reading their friends minds, and text them like a 'normal' human being would do! After all there's something to be said about reading someone else's words!

Well I did say that I supposed I am an old fart. You did a good job citing all the arguments I would use to refute what you are saying - so 'nuff said. If you extropolate your arguement, we are all heading towards the human blobs in Wall-e. On the flip side, I agree that it is a good way to express what is on your mind without the finality of the spoken word until you hit the send button....

Just don't put any sushi into the slushie machine!

Beat him to he punch if he is her guy. Make him think you're awesome (and even aloof as far as she's concerned). He'll re-confirm it all to her and torpedo his own ship, if he is, in fact, even sailing one.

Lol, no worries. I'm an old fart as well. I had to face either using technology like Facebook & cell phone texting to talk to my kids (who live in Florida now with their mom), or basically barely talk to them at all.

My son will talk to me on the phone for maybe 15 minutes before he's done... my daughter more like 2 minutes. But they will both text me all day long.

Adopt, adapt & conquer as they say in the military (or something like that).

Agreed....my daughter's main communication mode is texting. My wife has become quite adept at it. My company took it off our phones, so I don't have the option.

Back to the derailed topic....I can't imagine trying to get back to the date scene. I wish Chris best of luck at using any or all weapons in his arsenal....

I am not into Facebook and most social sites really at all, but I met my wife online and it's the best thing I ever did. Online dating is pretty harsh because it's so easy for people to think someone better is just a click or two away. It did however break the ice with us and it got most of the small talk out of the way so you could actually have a real conversation on the first date.

You see, that is why you need to open and read all the threads. The thread title is just a hint at what the first two posts may be about. The rest of the thread...well, you never know!
