No sound from M80 tweeters or mids

Just unpacked and hooked up one of my M80's for the first time and was surprised at how muddy the sound was, until I realized there was no sound coming from the tweeters or mid drivers. I unpacked and connected the second M80 and it was fine (sounds great actually!).

I remember seeing others with a similar problem but can't recall if there was a solution. Hopefully someone can chime in, TIA.

Check to make sure the connecting bars are in place and making contact between the binding posts. I’ve had them come a little loose and lost the one set of drivers when the wires were connected to the other post.

If that doesn’t work there could be a loose wire at a crossover. Not sure if you should check that w/o contacting Axiom first. Others might be able to say.

Nut, the connecting strips between the low and high frequency terminals, as Dean mentioned, are most likely loose.

Hi,

If the bridging bars are snugged and secured and you still can't get the mids and tweeters going; remove them and feed the signal (connecting your speaker wires) alternatively only to the top pair and to the lower pair of binding posts. The top pair should give you audio from the mids and the tweeters only; the lower pair from the woofers only.

If the top pair still does not provide any audio and the botom one allows you to get audio from the woofers then dial Axiom's toll free number 1.866.244.8796 for immediate assistance.

Thanks grunt & John, I will double check again to make sure the connecting bars/strips are secure. If they are then I will try JC's suggestion and see what happens. Fingers crossed!

As per JC's instructions the woofers work with the bottom pair but the mids & tweets still do not work with the top pair \:\(

I will try calling Axiom tomorrow.

Hey, don't jinx my speakers! Either he's got the worst luck in the world or something is causing them to fail...

Yep..that was me.
Mine did not work even after replacing both the tweeters. I called and got a replacement M80.

Makes me wonder if quality control needs to wake up at Axiom \:\)
Do they run each and every speaker on the test bed? Mine went bad after a year or so though.

The test bed would have needed a flux capacitor...

They do a sweep of every speaker on the line to verify that it meets their +- 3db spec so yes, they test every speaker.

Actually, on my tour I remember Debbie mentioning they look for +- 2db just to be sure.

Yes, and as a practical matter, the sweep at the factory is enough to accomplish any "break-in" needed.

hey guys ,,,i think i was a bit unlucky with axiom speakers,,,even though they sound really nice,,,,but i have trouble with my center ,surround and woofer,,,,my floorstand seem to work well....i think the midrange speakers have some issue on high volumes...as some one pointed out i think axiom need to have a little more tighter quality check...

Ashok, I'd think that it's reasonable to say that the string of problems that you've experienced are related to something (without knowing what)that happened after the speakers left the factory. In ordinary use, problems have been extremely rare. For example, my M22s have about 20,000 hours on them and my EP500 10,000 hours with no difficulties.

Ashok, I think you have a problem with your receiver based upon your posts of problems.
