I was looking to upgrade my M22's to either M60's, M80's or a few other brands.

After auditioning many speakers in the end Axiom made my decision really easy for me. I was the high bidder on a brand new set of M60's for only $395. I got the email today they have been shipped. No tracking info in fedex yet, but it looks like a 5 day ship time per their site. That puts me at next week Monday. I gotta wait through another weekend. I'm not sure I can handle it.

Just put in requests at the local library for some music concert dvd's to be sent from other local libraries.

Can't wait for them to arrive. Wondering if they will be V2 or V3.

I have been waiting for my FO speakers to be shipped, since I asked for V3 the waiting would be a little longer. It has been 2 weeks already and I haven't received any news from Axiom till now. frown The waiting is killing me! LOL I was just about to pay the 10% more to get them sooner.

deals.axiomaudio.com, afaik.

There's an older pair of M60tis on there right now, sitting at $200.

The current auctions listed are used from private sellers. I bid on new from Axiom.

It would appear so, as 2packer just won new speakers from Axiom.

Mine was stated as new. The other 3 axiom auctions in the description stated small scratches.

Here's the link to the auction I won.
http://deals.axiomaudio.com/item.php?id=14

to view the other 3 auctions change the last digit of the address to 15, 16, or 17.

I suspect what you'll see on the Axiom side of things are returns, custom job scratch and dents, and speakers used for photo shoots.

Yes, I did not mean to imply that Axiom would regularly auction off their standard "A" stock (or standard Factory Outlet stock for that matter). But occasionally you might find "one off" deals in "new" condition.

I'd love to take off Thursday but I have a couple late afternoon appointments. It's suppose to rain all day. Hopefully the fed ex man delivers to my covered front porch and not to the back service garage door.

Might have to keep checking when they are delivered and run home to get them in the house.

there here. They came double boxed and the boxes are in very good shape. Cranked up Metallica and justice for all a little bit just to see what they had to offer before the kids had to goto bed. Also listened/watched Nirvana unplugged while I worked out.

Tomorrow they'll get a long workout and some moving around. So far my initial thought was they are a little more layed back than the M22's. Definately fill my room with fuller and louder sound which is what I was hoping for as I was debating between these and the M80's and wasn't sure the M60's would be enough.

If you have the gold remaster of Master of Puppets, that's the Metallica album to test with. Garage Days isn't bad, either, on some tracks, and I've been partial to S&M for testing as well.

Playing Metallica albums on your newly installed home theatre system is like buying a Playstation 3 and hooking it up to a 20" CRT TV.

Unfortunately there is not a whole lot of grunge/metal recordings that will truly sound spectacular on a good loudspeaker - most were victims of the loudness wars in the past 20 years and will make linear loudspeakers sound bad . Pearl Jam albums like Yield are decent but not "reference quality". Albums from the band Porcupine Tree might appeal to his tastes and are well recorded which can be used as reference.

Its kind of tough to make recommendations without knowing all the different types of genres he likes.

When I auditioned speakers I picked the same music for all of them and took notes. And justice for all was used as I think for it's time is a very good recording. It also has a ton of mid bass and gives me a great idea of how well the cabinet is constructed.

The very first song I always played was Eagles Tequila Sunrise. About 1:45 to 2 minutes into the song during that part I eliminated a bunch of speakers that sound tinny "treble cranked up" or bright to me.

I do not listen to rap, country, classical, jazz, or pop.

Most of the stuff I listen to are from the 80's and 90's. Most of the new artists to me are junk.

Metallica, Megadeth, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Offspring, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, etc are what I mainly listen to.

On mellow days I'll roll with Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Doors, Led Zeppelin, Dave Matthews Band, etc.

Prior to getting the M60's I did listen side by side the Paradigm Studio 60's and B&W 683's. I liked the 683's just a hair more. Seemed a little more natural sounds and toned down a fuzz at the upper end. I would be happy owning either one so that's why I was excited to hear the M60's as I've heard they are very similar to the studio 60's but are even less than the B&W 683's.

The best speakers I auditioned to me were the PSB Imagine T's. I really liked the mid range of these. After listening to the M60's I still think the Imagine T's beat them overall, but they are also double the price of the M60's so value wise the M60's are a great deal at $990 and I wouldn't pay the extra for the Imagine T's as I don't think they are that much better of a speaker.

It's only been a few days but so far I am very satisifed with the M60's and I still can't believe I was able to get them for only $395.

I'll get some pics up later tonight if I can remember my login and the site where I have pictures loaded onto. My hard drive recently crashed so I lost a ton of stuff including bookmarks and passwords.

I'm glad you are enjoying the M60s. You are correct, there is a price to be paid for improved performance and Axiom hits the sweet spot of price/performance. That is certainly why I ended up with the M80.

Here's a picture. No comments about the antique tv I have. Yes I know that needs to be replaced.

I moved the 2 pieces of exercise equipment closer the front wall prior to getting the M60's as they were in the back of the room where it wasn't very loud. That area with the soffit just is terrible for sound. The bass just booms when I'm on the eliptical, it's not as bad if your just sitting in a chair, but once your head is close to the soffit it's terrible. I put a chair in the corner and that really didn't help much. I'm going to move the exercise stuff back.

I have no idea how to get the actual picture to show up so here's the link with grills on and off.

can you take any close up's of the 60's i would be curious to see what the "brushed" finish looks like, if you can get a picture without to much flash?

is it similar to brushed aluminum?

Oh, and what are you going to do with the m22's?

now you just need something like this

http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/madrid/ma7022.jsp

with a 60" plasma!!! laugh

2packer to get images to load up you simply need to put that link inside img tags [img]linked picture[/img]

Photobucket will actually do it for you, just hover over the picture you want to load up, the drop down links pop up and right click the IMG tag and copy it, then paste it back into your post here.

Unsure about the M22's yet. I haven't hooked them up to play along with the M60's yet. I'll try to get some close ups of the silver finish tonight when I get home.

I'm still trying to talk my wife into the Panny Plasma 58s1 that's only $1400 shipped. I'll probably go with a metal/glass stand. My wife says we already have enough wood stuff in that room. I'll snap picture as well of the custom cabinet I built for my display helmets. I have just about every nfl team signed by someone.

I wouldn't use the M22s and the M60s at the same time. You'll just get a muddled soundstage. Looks cool, though. wink

Unless you keep them vertical so that one is directly on top of the other one. I discovered this with my 2 pair of M22's. Muddled when side by side, but clear when vertically lined up.

Ah yes, I loved the M22/M60 combo. The M22/M60 when run with the M22 on top of the M60 is a very sweet sounding speaker system, very similar in sound and soundstage to the M80.

Yeah, I wouldn't suggest using the M22s simultaneously with the M60s side-by-side as mains. Consider using the M22s in parallel, and as close to the TV as possible, as center speakers.

I wanted to try out the combo like jakewash did in a thread from a couple years ago I think it was with the M22 on top of the M60.

Been busy so haven't had a chance to listen or post new pics. We just got a beagle from the local humane society so that has occupied quite a bit of my time.

I'll try to get the closeup pics tonight.

The best thing I've ever seen looking out that window was a group of 7 turkeys walking by. With more and more houses being built in the area I've been seeing less and less deer, but that was the only time I saw turkeys, oh and I mean the real bird not some of the posters on this site.

I think someone deleted my linked post to the auction. I searched my recent posts and it's gone. It was in the auctions thread.

They are brushed silver.

I never thought I would like the look of brushed silver speakers but those do look very good.

Yes the M22 is on top of the M60 and play around with the depth of the M22 on top. I liked to have it pulled all the way to the front but my wife liked the sound with the M22 mid way back on the M60, no that there was alot of difference, it sounded really good either way smile

I was a little leary of the silver. I have about a 5 year old 52" toshiba dlp with the built in speakers on the sides and I had envisioned they would have that shiny silver look of the tv.

They look much better than I thought they would.

I like the look, too. I kind of wish there were more stock finish options. Boston Cherry has served me well, but right now I'm thinking a non-wood look would be nice.

I like the black vinyl, but don't care for the boston cherry. Too me anything that has a wood look but isn't wood looks cheap. Then again I enjoy woodworking so I might be somewhat biased to actual wood.

My qs8's are boston cherry, and I wish they were black.

That's why I prefer the Cinnamon Beech finish. It's still fake wood, but it looks a whole more like real wood.
