When I run the automatic setup for my receiver I get a loud clacking snapping noise from the tone off the walls in the corners it seems. It is like a ringing sound it makes. What I don't understand is why I have it. My room has wall to wall carpet two bass traps in corners behind my speakers and 6 acoustic panels on the walls. So why do I still have what seems to me a very pronounced ringing. Doesn't this really detract from sound quality? Is there anything I can do that doesn't require me putting foam around my ceiling in the corners? Also would this cause the auto setup to be incorrect with its settings?

What receiver do you have? I've not heard the tones from anything but Pioneer's MCACC. It has a reverb test designed to provoke just this response from the room. That may be what you're hearing.

I would think that is what it is. I have the onkyo 805. I just wouldn't think it would be that pronounced unless there is an issue withj the room.
