Those things were around at least 15 year ago--I remember looking longingly at something like that in a catalog when I was a teenager. I suspect the sound quality is... less than stellar.

Try . . . How it works. or CNN Report Not the stuff of audiophile quality. Also with a much of the sound media, you want to be able to localize the source and not have it come from "somewhere?". Thus the disntictive seperate channels for a home theater or a musical soundstage and being able to cue in to where the piano is vs drums vs singer, etc. This is most easily accomplished with standard speaker design and placement. I see this as best serving the advertising business or maybe ambient music in restaraunts or waiting rooms, etc.
