I haven't updated my PS3 in a while and checked tonight and saw 3.42 is out. I don't use the online network so haven't been forced to update. any reason why I should, or am I just going to lose features they may have removed?

I am on 3.30 now.

Good question. I haven't put my PS3 online as I have no real reason to. Unless there is something really pressing, I will pass.

Our resident PS3 expert is in Romania chillin'. Hopefully the vampires in Transylvania give him access to the internet to answer your question before they suck his blood.

I believe that all it does is remove the ability to jailbreak/hack/whatever the PS3, but don't quote me on that.

You can wait for 3.50 which is due to hit on September 21st. It will have actual new features including 3D Blu-ray support.

There haven't been any great features added recently. Staying at 3.30 is good enough, until you get a game that requires a newer version. Charles is right 3.50 does added 3D Blu-ray support, if that's something you need.

Oh, and I'm back!

How was the trip?

Finally finished Metal Gear Solid 4 last night, so I'm done with games on the PS3 until Gran Turismo 5 is a little over a month. I do a lot more movies than I do gaming on it.

Gran Turismo 5 is never going to come out. Haven't you learned that yet?

Trip was good, still trying to come back into sorts of my normal life. I'll post a few pics later (didn't take many because my SLR attracted too much attention on the streets).

I'm really looking forward to GT5 also (it'll probably be a game that requires the system to be up to date).
