There's actually a reward for going farther.
Hint: I listen to Hot Chip on purpose; this video/song is ironic.

But it could be that I'm biased.

I've heard Hot Chip mentioned, but I'm not familiar with their stuff. 20 seconds of familiarity doesn't count, so I can't exactly judge your taste yet.

They are Electropop. Pretty goofy, but make use of 80's toy synths and stuff. They've also remixed a track or two for Beck.

I saw Hot Chip with LCD Soundsystem. Indeed goofy, but pretty cool. Never saw steel drums used with synths and echo-y guitars.

Yeah, a lot of their tracks feature steel drums. They sort of blend in, but once you hear them, you're like "what the heck are steel drums doing there?"

Probably depends on what you define as pop. Not that I can think of one I find listenable off the top of my head, but... Very true, Ken. For disambiguation I'll use this definition - "Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple love songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes."
