I bought two cd's last week by The Fixx. I had them on vinyl. Gawd, was I disappointed. It wasn't a nostalgic let down. I just thought that there was way less happening there than I had so fondly remembered.

Any music you were once so hot for, but now...eeh?

Grand Funk RR does not count, but I'll go for Men with Hats.

Men at Work. I heard a song on the radio the other day. I used to LOVE Men at Work. Now...meh.

Van Halen. Sorry, Craig Lee Roth.
DMB--some of it, at least.
Any number of alt rock bands from the 90s. Smashing Pumpkins screams (shrieks, whines, sings poorly) to mind.

Depends on how sweetly they make it.

Men at Work was my favorite at the time. Now, I still like them, but there is some "meh" factor, I'll admit.

As far as TV shows go, the one that really fits here is Friends.

Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

I hate to admit - Iron Maiden.

Instrumental virtuosos, intelligent lyrics - but the endless bridges and solos just kill it... find myself fast forwarding through half the song.

Well, not really. I just thought there should be a classical entry...

Used to listen to U2 a lot in the 80's, but really don't like them much at all now.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has to be *the* one band I use to love but just can't listen to much anymore, and that probably is more due to them just being way overplayed over the years.

America is another one.

Unfortunately for them, The Rembrandts (Friends theme song) were one of my favorite bands at the time. That crappy little ditty is nothing like anything else on any of their 3 cd's. I saw them in Tucson in the mid 90's and they were great. A couple of The Bodeens touring with them. Awesome singers and vocal harmonies.

And really, who could watch Seinfeld now?

I worshiped at the feet of ELP. I've really tried, and recently, too. Just can't do it any more.

And I can't recall the last time I dragged out NIN.

Stevie Wonder, The Cars... Just so overexposed in their time that they wore out their welcome.

And Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt and Pat Benatar.

Funny. No one's mentioned Sig Sig Sputnik or Haircut 100.

And boy, did Jet flame out or what?

I understand. I saw every episode, but I was tired of it about a year before it went off the air.

I have a great appreciation for the show and it's achievements, but I didn't like it. The same goes for The Simpson's. All my friends loved both shows, but I was the black sheep.

I could get dismembered for this, but The Stones have been off my list for over 35 years. I might be convinced to sit through His Satanic Majesty's...

And I can't believe how little I thought of the King Crimson remasters. Sounded great, but then there's not much going on that isn't akin to Eno's "Music for Airports."

There's some of the most topcial American History (subverted) of the last 1/4 C in the Simpson's. Of course, it's completely OK not to care for it.

How bout Beavis and Butthead, then? "I am the great Cornholio! I need TP for my bunghole." Classic American prose.

Journey, REO Speedwagon and Kiss come to mind as bands with music that doesn't really seem as good now, as it did back in the day.

Hard to argue, but they were such a part of my youth. I surely never understood the obtuse references, like Schickelgruber, at the time, but now that I do, some of their remarks are brilliant.

Wow! A Zionista! No one's ever called me that before. Oh, wait! there was that Palestinian prof in grad school....

Really, if we just carpet bomb all the "holy" sites, no one will have anything to fight over. But, hey, they're willing to fight over The Wailing Wall and, new evidence suggests it was never part of King David's palace.

I look OK (nay, natural) in a yamulka, but I can't see myself with the tendrills and the little black Rubic's cube on my head.

You dogmatic pedant, you! If we wipe it all clean, 'cept for the buildings, don't you think it would make a great Disney theme park? I'm thinkin' an Alladin motif.

And DO NOT make me go back to using emoticons. You know when I'm joking (which is good, because, often, I don't). Besides, the only people I really have ever wanted to have killed are

As to the idea of a Disney theme park- The Alladin facade would be apropos. Conquer and rebuild, but don't westernize it at all. Hmmmmmm, there's money to be had in "Theme Park Hegemony".

Journey, REO Speedwagon and Kiss? I wish music today was more like these bands, well except for Kiss.

And Estelle Harris played George's mom perfectly.

ELO, Judas Priest, and the Stray Cats. I lost all that music when I lost my casette Tape case on the way to Myrtle Beach in 1982.

"Hegemony".

I love that word. But when one says it, it sounds like you've just made it up.

I know you're usually kidding, but that Constitution thing scared me. I've been on it. Really, it's not that special.

Still love Seinfeld, but I stopped watching The Simpsons at about season 9. Curb Your Enthusiasm and Futurama are still great.

As far as bands, the Cranberries were the first band that I really got into, so I waaaaay over-listened to them. As in, I spent a significant amount of time listening to them every day for at least a few years. I still listen to a song or two here and there, but I find it hard to do more than that. That's why I don't listen to Regina Spektor too much.

I use to like Metallica a lot, but find their music complete rubbish these days. Even the old stuff...eeh. I would also add these bands to my list with just sticking to the pop culture music theme.

Korn
The Who
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Green Day
Radiohead
DMB
Weezer

It is also fascinating to come up with these lists and then look at it from the opposite perspective of individual bands to music genres that you didn't like or even hated but now love.

With exception to a couple songs, Metallica is rubbish; and that's a known FACT!

Take that, Ken wink laugh .

House, DMB shouldn't even be considered for a thread of this theme. I respect your obvious right to an opinion, but it should be said that you're wrong grin grin grin wink.

Right, David.....?

I still like DMB and have seen them live on a number of occasions. I just don't get the urge to listen to them anymore.

I was just being goofy. As you've probably seen via my posts, they're my favorite band, after Rage Against the Machine, of course smile.

on the flip side...I used to HATE Steely Dan. Soulless white men playing jazz. Over the years I've come to appreciate their ability. They're still soulless white men playing jazz...but damn...they're good at it.

As previously mentioned, "Friends". I used to catch the show all the time back in the 90's but watching it now....it just seems kind of shallow and, well, poorly scripted. One of those shows that WON'T stand the test of time, imo of course.

Korn were never good, so I'm okay with them being on your list. :P

Right, Korn always sucked.

And I've always hated Steely Dan. There, I've finally admitted it.

The Who's career after Keith Moon died has paled compared the their classics, but IMHO, they remain a top ten group of all time.

Looking through my CD collection:

Fine Young Cannibals
Collective Soul (I think I just need to dust them off)
Madonna
Sting
Yes

Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

For me it's Rod Stewart. The Faces and Mott the Hoople were the 2 bands that started me on this lifelong rock and roll trip. While I still love listening to old Faces (and Mott the Hoople) listening to most anything Rod's done since "Do Ya (Think I'm Sexy) depresses the heck out of me. The first concert I ever saw was the Faces at the Minneapolis Auditorium in '75 ($8 general admission) I spent the evening about 10 feet from a very drunk Ronnie Wood and was totally starstruck. I saw Stewart a couple of years back during one of he Great American Songbook tours and left early-was totally embarrassed for what Rod's become.
