The look on the wife's face when you suggest using the m22's as rears and purchasing floorstanders for the front--PRICELESS!!!!!

I have thought of trying this with my Girl Friend. But I do not know if I want to see the expression on her face. She is moving to New York City this summer while I finish my degree for another year. That might be a perfect time to upgrade to M60's and move the 22's to the bedroom. My reciever is only 6.1 and I already have 3 QS8's so I could not put my pair of M22's in the rears for Hi Res Music.

You're not even married and you let her have an opinion on your speakers?!?!

I know (knew?) the feeling.

Snip, I know what you think you are trying to accomplish, but it won't work. Once you are married you will learn that despite all of the relationship building and sharing that you did will pale when she realizes that she controls 100% of the money and physical intimacy. This knowledge gene is activated by the consumption of wedding cake.

You may as well begin practicing the only two accepatable responses you can give for the rest of your life following marriage (and they fit any circumstance). They are:
1) "Okay"

2) "You're right, I'm sorry".

My sympathies to you Ray.
My wife enjoys music more than I do.
Guess how hard it is to discuss the audio budget in our house.

Chess, beyond the obvious tongue-in-cheek I provided for snip, the Axioms have had an interesting and welcome side effect.

We took some dancing lessons last year in advance of my daughter's wedding. They were so much fun, we have continued them. Anyhow, when I get into some of the CDs, my wife shows up and pulls me out of my seat and we end up dancing in the sound blanket. We've been talking about expanding both the lessons and breadth of the CD collection because of the improvement in music.

She's also gotten more into the movies. We were watching Seabiscuit Saturday night and the scenes involving the races are pretty interesting with horses galloping all around the room on the QS8s. She grabbed the remote and turned it up to enjoy the ambient sound and also asked - how do we get more bass?

In a couple of weeks the Axioms have turned this HT thing from being my hobby to something we can share. Kinda nice.

That's a lovely story.
We need more of those around here. Way too much wife bashing in these forums (i use the term 'bashing' somewhat loosely).

Oh Ray! That is too cool. I'm single, and one of the prices I pay for my freedom, is missing out on something like that. Count your blessings!

"She asked - how do we get more bass?"
Oh Man, you're in deep s**t now! Start saving for the new subwoofer(s)

While the dancing part was nice, what REALLY brought a tear to my eye was the request for more bass. She's gone from tolerating my HT passion to being on the brink of participating.

Jack - I think I'm going in a different $$ direction. I told her we could get more bass by just increasing the sub gain by a few dB, but what we REALLY needed to do was to get MORE POWER!!!!!!

I felt the appropriate path might be to get rid of that Denon 1803 and go for a 3803 (which I expect to be discounted when the 3805 debuts).
