Ian had mentioned a few months ago that there would be in-wall speakers available by the end of Spring. Do you know when they will become available?

Thanks

you could just buy some M60's and dig two huge holes in your wall.

be sure to leave about a foot (about 28 cm for you canadians) in back of the M60 and a few inches on either side to port the air, be sure to take a picture and email it to everyone when you finish

So far we have not completed an in-wall design that we are satisfied enough with to introduce, but we are still working on it. I would be interested in knowing any particular details that people are looking for in an in-wall design and the main area in the house where they would be used.

Well if it were me, i would probly use them in the ceiling in my basement or the bathrooms and potentially outside on the patio, although i think that gets into a different realm altogether.
My requirements would be for a compact design, simply installation (with or without access to wall studs) and completely encased with minor power (maybe 50W-75W max?).
If anything i would use them as background sound for the wine cellar when company came over or during dinner parties and your main stereo is nowhere near the dining room.
Speaker finish would be quite important unless they are designed with a paintable surface. Nothing would stand out more than a black speaker on a white ceiling.
GEEEZ i hate the black,
Thanks so much Ian for including the Boston CHerry finish with ALL the products.
You know how hard it is to find a subwoofer that isn't black and under 1k these days?!

Now as for the outdoor speakers, maybe a new thread should start but offhand there is this company called Rockustics down in the States that makes a neat product. If Axiom built something like that, OH MAN, i'm there!!

Personally, I would like in-wall speakers that are good for a surround system. I don't know how feasible a bipolar in-wall design would be, but it would be a great asset for achieving spousal acceptance!

Hi,

The thing is, how much do you compromise sound quality to get out a successful in-wall speaker design? It's a very daunting technical challenge....Think about it: When you recess a speaker into the wall, the front baffle that the drivers now "see" (from an acoustical point of view) is the entire surface of the wall!

So there's the challenge, and also why in-wall speakers in the past have been rather compromised in sound quality. . .How do you get around the problem of this front baffle of hundreds of square feet??

Interesting dilemma.

Regards,

How about a hundred-foot woofer to go with it?

Hey ChrisR,

Sounds good to me. Maybe this has potential. We use a really cheesy material for the wall and attach an enormous voice coil to the wall! So then the wall becomes the woofer diaphragm. It might blow everyone away!

Regards,
