So, how long until Blu-ray is passé? LinkNo official price yet, though it is disturbing that they consider "under $25,000" to be "affordable".

It's meant to paired with the $27,000 Sony SS-AR1 flagship speakers . At 4k that is quite a bargain to add to your Sony flagship home theater system. http://www.stereophile.com/content/sony-ss-ar1-loudspeaker

A 4k projector for $4k would be a bargain.

LOL. I remember when people were taking LCD screens, ripping the screen out of the housing, an putting the now "naked" screen on top of a light source and "projecting" it.
You don't hear much about that anymore.

If I remember correctly, the nice thing about a 4k display is that you use the cheap passive 3d glasses and still have 1080p to each eye. I don't really care much about 3d though.
4k may be a discernible upgrade in the projector realm, but probably not in TV's. So just 4k alone is not enough to push it as the next big thing. 3D TV sales have been pretty poor overall. I don't know if having passive glasses with 1080p to each eye is a big enough selling point to turn things around.

In a 4k 3d display designed to work with passive glasses, supposedly you can have 1080p to each eye. With the current 1080p 3d displays designed for passive glasses you have less that 1080p to each eye. One major push to going to 4k displays is for this better 3d implementation.
