I just got this email from Netflix. It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.
This means no change: one website, one account, one password…in other words, no Qwikster.
While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes.
We're constantly improving our streaming selection. We've recently added hundreds of movies from Paramount, Sony, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM and Miramax. Plus, in the last couple of weeks alone, we've added over 3,500 TV episodes from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA, E!, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Discovery Channel, TLC, SyFy, A&E, History, and PBS.
We value you as a member, and we are committed to making Netflix the best place to get your movies & TV shows.
Respectfully,
The Netflix Team
It looks like they didn’t do enough market research before rolling out their changes. I sure hope that everyone dumping either disk rental (me), instant watching or both sent them a message.

New Netflix now sits next to New Coke in the marketing hall of infamy.
I would like it if Amazon got their streaming thing together. Not enough devices yet for me (i.e. I don't HAVE any of them except a computer).

I still think that the existing Coke we have today is the same as the New Coke they tried to introduce a few years ago. I hated New Coke and I hate todays Coke on an equal leve.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do any research. Ideas or "models" like that get promoted within the corporate walls and take on a life. Even if somebody thinks it is a bonehead plan, they may hesitate to voice their opinion as they are maneuvering through the miasma of office politics.

Speaking of Coke, I found this in that giant cloud out there somewhere. Don't know if it's true or not.
"New Coke was born as a way for Coca Cola to shake off grandfathered deals on the price of syrup to bottlers. Do away with the old formula and make the bottlers negotiate for the new Coke which Coke never intended to keep. As buyers revolted, Coke was "forced" to bring back old Coke which was now a retired formula, so they called it "Coke Classic" and negotiated new syrup deals for bottlers."

The way I heard it was much different. In blind taste tests more people liked Pepsi. So Coke, wanting to have their cake and eat it too, released a cola that tasted like Pepsi. However, even though people were liking Pepsi better (by a slim margin), they *really* wanted Coke to taste like Coke and revolted.

When taking one or two sips, most people prefer Pepsi, but when given a whole serving, Coke wins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepsi_Challenge#Criticisms
