Alex,

Thanks for the added detail. Yes, I can see why you would want to stick to the EP600 and should if you are going for a “stereo” sub set up. If you change the sub hook up to mono direct from your Krell you could run one EP600 and one EP800 without a problem. They are both DSP corrected to be perfectly linear. The fact that the EP800 will go lower and play louder are not factors that inhibits using one of each in the same room.

I do think you should try experimenting with feeding your subs individual right and left channel information vs a blended mono signal. You are likely to find no difference. Since there is no stereo separation in frequencies that low you could be going to a lot of effort for no benefit, and perhaps even degradation since you would no doubt feel obliged to keep the stereo subs beside the mains as opposed to experimenting with various locations around the room.

No matter how you end up configuring the subs however you are going to end up with better bass than you currently have and that is the fun part! Of course there is always the all-out option of doing both with four subs.

Cheers,

Alex, note that as I commented above, Ian has made clear that his "idea" was to use two subs positioned so as to smooth out the bass response in the room, not to arrange them in a "stereo" configuration with the main speakers.

I reason i wanted the stereo sub setup, was due to auditioning a pair of Wilson's.. With the Wilson's you could feel/hear the low frequencies in stereo, in a well mastered CD. However, the Wilson's i was auditioning were 25k$ a pair, so i kindly passed...

That is where this whole "stereo sub" thing is coming from, I can afford a second 600 and an outboard crossover. I can't imagine there being a "non-optimal" location for a pair of EP-600's... have you heard those things Ian??? smile

I think with enough time, i could get the positioning down... it took me about 2 weeks, to get the M-60's positioned the way they sound the best to me in my chair..

Also, if the whole Stereo kick doesn't quite work out... There is nothing wrong with having 2 EP-600's... Then i would just to give in...

Alex,

With the Protea you should be able to set it up for either separate right and left channel low frequency information to each EP600 or a combined right plus left to each EP600. This will allow you to play with these options and see what you like best.
