A lot of you have helped me (directly and indirectly) make my decision to purchase my new m60ti's, qs8's and vp150. Thanks to all of you...
I was traveling from California to Canada on business and the boxes came while I was away. My wife had to lug them into the house (she was not too happy about that). I got home from my trip the following day at 11:00 PM and could not wait to open them up. I was pleasantly surprised by the look of the Axiom's, they look great. My only complaint about the appearance is that a small piece of veneer is peeling on one of the m60's.
I had to wait until the next morning to plug them in and listen. Once I heard them I immediately started to smile. I find myself having to think of sad things to remove the permanent smile . They replaced a pair of 16-year-old Sony fronts (came with my first stereo in a box), a Polk center that I have never been happy with and Infinity bookshelf rears, so this is a major jump for me.
I have had them for almost a week now and am working on getting the qs8's mounted, hope to do it today or tomorrow. The decision on where to mount them has been a tough one but I am going to listen to Brent at Axiom and mount them on the rear wall that my couch is against.

I will post finished pictures when I am finished mounting the qs8's.
Thanks again,
Mike

OK Mike, you almost had me there. I was tearing up a bit relative to the M60 vinyl and the sad feeling I had based on your 16 years of mongrel speakers. THEN I saw the pictures where you get to step out to your pool. FULL STOP - sympathy muscle inactive!!!
On a more serious note, I made a similar trip from 15+ year old speakers to M60/VP100/QS8 country. It's been about 5 weeks now and I'm STILL smiling. Sit back & enjoy. I'm guessing your wife will feel pretty good about hauling speakers as time goes on.

LOL... thanks for the reply and I am sorry that you can relate the Frankenstein setup that I had. Going through that rough time in my life (putting up with crappy speakers) has made me what I am today... tone deaf.
It is funny the things people notice in the photos. I am waiting for the "how come you have not centered the center channel?" comments that I have seen in other posts. I do love the pool but it is a lot of work, now I can enjoy music while I am cleaning it
What do you think of me locating the qs8's on the back wall about 2' above the couch and 2' out?

Does this answer your question about QS8 placement?
Since I'm at it (notice that there is no pool)
The final placement of the Qs is about 2 more inches from the back wall. I elevated them 2 1/2" and they sound great.
Your placement sounds roughly right. These things are incredibly forgiving. Rather than 2' above the couch, you mght consider 2' from the ceiling.

The one you see in my photos is a recent addition to the family. It replaced my first TV I ever purchased. It was a 27" Mitsubishi that I bought 16 years ago. I think it was time...

What is that Pete, a monocle?
Mike - are you OK with understanding your placement idea is good, but maybe a little higher?

Pete, yes thanks for the clarification. I think I am going to mount them with the Omnimount wall bracket on the rear wall about 1.5' below the ceiling line. I hope that will sound good.

Does the same rule apply to people with big TVs as applies to people with fast/expensive cars?

Excellent response!! I'm not sure how to answer. I haven't had an expensive car and I couldn't afford a big enough TV to matter!!!! I may even be too old to "get back into the game". Take heart - you must begin to formulate an upgrade plan since this is the only thing that helps the testoterone level after the age of 35.

I have a shitty tv too, I feel you. I know I'm going to be moving around a bit in the next few years so I'm reluctant to buy anything too big. My vp150 is the same width as my tv...it's pretty funny seeing how small it looks on some of those rear projection units.

Speaking of the Omnimount, I noticed that Radio Shack carries them now. They looked pretty nice.

Be careful when you talk about mounting rear-ported speakers. Some of us can't stop the images it conjures.
