I decided to give the movies a rest tonight and popped in a concert DVD. Performing live tonight in my living room was Shania Twain: Live in Chicago. All I can say is wow!!! I thought movies and music were good. This was incredible. Almost like being there. In fact I went out on the back deck to grab a smoke and the sound from inside sounded just like the sound at a concert when you are walking outside on the concourse of an arena. It was almost surreal. After that I put in Metallica: Cunning Stunts. I had to hear "One". The gunshots and explosions at the beginning of it completly filled the room. I am definitely going to be picking up more concert DVDs.

Must be concert night in everyones living rooms. Tonight it was concert night in my living room, and performing live just for me was Pink Floyd Pulse. Very enjoyable with the Axioms and SVS sub. Great auditioning material.

oh yeah....well....tonight I was watching the Sum of All Fears and just after the nuclear explosion with all that dust and fallout floating around, my gf walked by the TV started coughing. How's that for realism?

I have been on a kick with concert DVD's lately. I think they're a great buy, and have lots of replay value.
My favorites are probably Eagles Hell Freezes Over, Springsteen in NYC, U2 Boston (I hear Slane Castle is good as well), Peter Gabriel Growing Up, Sting All This Time. I have many more that are great, and it can definitely feel like they're in your living room performing for you.

On a similar note...check to see if "All Access" is playing anywhere near you in an IMAX theatre. We made this film a year or so ago, and it has been tanking badly. BUT...it's REALLY good! It's basically live performances by a diverse group of musicians, including Sting, Moby, Dave Matthews, Macy Gray, George Clinton, and a bunch more.
It's like having a front row seat. Truly spectacular...I can't understand why no one is going to see it.

Blockbuster??????? You're doing yourself a disservice by not signing up for Netflix IMO. Especially for music dvd's. They've got a ton of them and you can go through more than 3 or 4 for the $20 a month you'd spend at blockbuster.

One more thing ... Not sure what kind of music everyone is looking for, but if you are into harder sounding stuff, the Nine Inch Nails - All That Could Have Been Live DVD is probably one of the best sounding DVD's out there. It's mastered incredibly well and the video is just like being there.

I agree. I actually had Netflix and was great evangelist for it. Then I got DirecTivo. No more need to have Netflix when I can Tivo HBO, Starz, IFC, and Sundance.
Cancelled Netflix shortly after. I even had the grandfathered $19.99 4 disc deal since I had Netflix pretty much since they started. Still a great service.
Now just waiting for HD DirecTivo to come out next month...

Spiff - you worked on "All Access"?
I saw it, maybe, three years ago when it came out at the Smithsonian IMAX in D.C. My girlfriend (no wife) took me to go see it one Saturday afternoon as a gift for something (probably as a thank you because I'm such a great guy, right?)
We thought the movie was just unbelievable. If you thought surround sound in the theater (or your HT) was great, you gotta check this one out. It was like being at a concert - except the system was better, Sting and Dave Matthews and Macy Gray were 25 feet tall, and there was no waiting in line for beers (b/c there were no beers, but that's beside the point)
I would heartily endorse this production, and urge any of you audiophites out there to check it out if for nothing more than to find out what your system is missing when it comes to huge sound...
BTW - I've looked for this title on DVD (I know that IMAX releases its movies on DVD after they've run for a bit), but I haven't found it anywhere. Is it not released in the U.S., and if so, why not, and if not, when will they release it?
You're my man on the inside - I need the skinny.

I see what I can find out about a possible DVD release. Yeah, I had a very small hand on that movie. I had just started at IMAX when we were working on it.

While the singer's politics don't particularly move me, the Dixie Chicks Live at the Kodak Theater is the best concert DVD I have. One song in particular brings me to tears every single time I play it (kind of embarassing when there's company present). The cinematography and sound are both spectacular and the performances are top-notch.
The G3 concert DVD is also very good (like anybody needs to be told about that one, eh?).

"All Access" will be released by Artisan Entertainment. Should be sometime soon, but I don't know when yet.

I'm guessing it's the one with the "soldier's comin' home" line in it. That always tears me up, too.

metalaaron,
Every time I see the Cunning Stunts title, I can't stop laughing at the thinly-veiled joke. (Try swapping the italicized letters...)

macdiehard: This is how you make a text link. The url goes where it says link and what you want the link to say goes where title is. Example
title

Only when you type it in your post, omit the spaces before and after the title in the example above, or it won't show up as a link.

Yes, that's the one. Great picture and great sound. I also have Bruce's Live in Barcelona DVD, which is also good, but has a bit worse audio/video quality. The Barcelona DVD is from The Rising tour, so it has a few songs from his new album.
